Diagnostic tool recomendation

Hi

I am looking to buy a OBD diagnostic reader but doing a bit of research it looks like there is a choice of a few so any advice to pros and cons would be grateful.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I have the IIDTool from Gap Diagnostics. http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool.html

I've found it very useful. It'll read and clear fault codes. It also allows access to a whole load of live data from the system and allows alterations to be made to several systems including the air suspension.

It's tiny - smaller than a pack of cards, plugs straight in to the OBD port and is controlled by the steering wheel buttons. It's also easy to update by simply plugging it into the USB port of a PC and using the supplied software.

There are a number of other systems out there, notably Faultmate which is used by some on here. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for the quick reply, this is one i was looking at which on the face of it looks as if it can do all that is required but i thought it best to see what other people with experience thought.
Is the connection cable supplied with the unit? Thumbs Up

Not personally, but a couple of forum members do, bodsy & Flack, they also offer their services too which might be useful if you don't buy one yourself

Just been searching on disco3 to see what I could find out for you, here's a couple from the search

Thanks npinks for the info and links, there is an argument for all system out there although it looks like the Gap IID unit is hard to go past for a individual user and price.

Will now do some research on suppliers. Swifty

Found a local dealer who will supply the GAP IID for £360, does this sound about right? Swifty

Flea Bay, £280. for a 2005 to 3009, not sure about 2010, google will be your friend. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

IMHO the BBS (Faultmate) is very good
I also think you get a 10% discount if you meet certain Forum requirements
http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/download...disco3.pdf

The one BIG problem is the cost, even with the discount, it's still mega high. You also need to think of the future, will BBS continue support for the current unit....at a reasonable price....they didn't with the Rovacom lite.

Next on the list it the GAP IIDTOOL, this looks like it does everything you will ever need, also loads of good reviews, and it's small enough to carry in the glove box and it is less than £300, I also understand that there is a B/Toth version in the pipeline so you can use it in conjunction with your Ipad / Iphone or WHY. I think this will be the tool that replaces the Faultmate as the No 1 for the home user. Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
