JLR production faces shutdown after DHL strike vote

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2013/j...dhl-strike

Quote:
DHL has offered staff a 4.5% pay increase for 2013, plus a guaranteed 3% for 2014. Unite is asking for 12.8% over two years for employees who sort parts and 20.6% for drivers. About 74% of the Midlands staff voted in favour of taking industrial action.

Hope this does not signify a return to the bad old days - production abroad will be inevitable if this escalates Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

So it's a supplier that is striking, not JLR.

Unite seem to be quite feisty these days. I think all they'll do is drive production overseas. Asking for a 20% pay rise over 2 years is just setting up the workforce for a strike.

No doubt DHL's management will bring in people to cover the strike but will it mean that the wrong parts are sorted more often? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Logisitics Partner? So they supply the logisitics service to JLR...? Whistle

It's not JLR staff that are planning to strike; it's DHL staff that are planning to strike. See the difference? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

From the tour I did at Halewood, its the DHL staff that deliver the required parts in trays to the production line,

Production line scans build sheet, parts ordered, DHL pick and deliver in forklifts to the point the parts are required

No DHL mean no LR's or parts missing when the car gets to the end of the line, queue holding pen and delays, or if your as lucky as Muddywheels a car LR won't do anything about when you realise things are missing which shouldn't be

Nice way back to '70s sky-high interest rates, due to rocketing inflation after excessive union-driven pay rises all over again.

And so, boom & bust continues.... Confused 2006 TDV6 SE, Zermatt Silver

Surely Expensive luxury vehicle manufactures have Processes & technology in place to ensure parts are not missing from the products they produce Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I work for DHL at a JLR plant. I cannot unfortunately comment on the ' industrial action' due to my staff position but I will try & make sure no parts are left off or incorrectly sent trackside Big Cry after all I do own a Landrover product and may look to upgrade in the future. They are if you've got savings in the bank. You're losing money on them every day with the interest rates where they are. I know the theory is that it is designed to make us spend our money and thus get the economy working again, but only a fool spends all of his savings these days.

I don't see why I should spend my savings just to get some financier someone a bigger bonus. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
