No I have not interfaced it with the 4X4 system its something I'm looking at with a wifi obd unit, if the data from the 4X4 system is avaliable on that then I will write a app. This Mod will not work with the DVD system But I dont use the DVD so it didnt matter to me, I will look into linking the Ipad to the rear monitors.

Looks awesome Thumbs Up , I've been thinking of doing something similar but with an Android Tablet however had a couple of issues namely:

1) The power on/off issue where you need access to the power button, otherwise the tablet can run out of power over several days and then it can't be powered on again...
2) Removal of the existing SatNav and therefore the need to pass through of the MOST system to ensure everything works.

Could you give us an insight in how you got around these issues? Would be appreciated Smile

Thanks in advance

Hi Guyzer73,

The ipad will come on even if its flat, it will only turn off if you turn it off, as for a android tablet the only way I can think of getting round it is to modify the tablet and make a external switch.

My install has the existing SatNav still in place behind the iPad, but if you wanted to remove the SatNav you only have to Bridge the Most system together from the back of the Unit, you can get a most straight joiner.

Paul

Cheers Paul Thumbs Up

I've actually just found a way round the power up issue, at least for Samsung tablets so that when it receives power it should now reboot... and using the Tasker app I can power the Tablet off when it loses the power connection (through an ignition feed) so that should resolve that, once I find somebody to reprogram the file that is.

For anybody interested in this function the link is:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187631

And if I can find somebody to do the reprogramming I'll get him to do a custom boot animation with a Range Rover logo Very Happy

Regards the MOST pass through I'll have a look on the 'net where I can find this as there's no chance I'll find it locally here in Oman... The reason for not placing it in front of the existing SatNav is I know I'll have an issue with heat so want to look at mounting it in a floating style at the front of the dash similar to the new Merc GLA. And can then use that as extra storage. You can see what I mean below:

Then using a 'deconstructed' dock I can get power and audio out, and extend the micro SD card slot with this:

The big issue is how to mount this all in a 'OEM' style 'shell' so that is looks as stock as possible... If I can't find a solution to this I'll have to install it where the SatNav is and try and vent some of the air conditioned air to the back of the tablet to keep it cool.

Should keep me busy tinkering during my paternity leave in September...

Cheers

I have had no issue with the ipad overheating, for anyone else that needs to know, I have used an Apple airport in my install and modified it to 12v, I used a 12v to 3.3v power supply purchased from ebay for £3. you will need tell the airport not to look for internet in the settings, this way the 3g still works on the ipad and so does the airplay.

OK that's good to know. The problem is I'm in the Middle East with temps in the shade of over 40C in the summer you can imagine the heat build up in the car, if I have to park in the sun...

I've had the tablet in the car before and left it mounted to the car mount on the windscreen and it took up to 45 mins before it would start charging again, and once or twice wouldn't even boot up until it had cooled down due to the temperature of the Tab being too high.

Hence being cautious about doing a fixed install where it can't be cooled... as it would be Censored if it then regularly failed to work...

Cheers

Really interested in this install, do you think you will be able to link into the rear monitors for full DVD system ?
Also, does this still allow steering wheel buttons to function as norm when installed... Would be very interested in a full supply/install price if you are able.

Thumbs Up 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged
