Indi hourly rates and labour hours?

To know whether one is getting a good deal or not when getting a quote for a fault to be fixed, it would be very helpful to know how many hours on average a particular job will take and the average hourly rates charged by independents. A sticky of this would be brilliant! Anybody knows a good site with this kind of info? It's just that you take your car down to your indi for some fault to be fixed, and he quotes a price, but do you know really whether you are getting a true price, or being ripped off? My indi appears to be charging between £60 & £70 per hour. I don't know what main dealers charge.

Main dealers I think approx. £95p. My indi is £45 +vat. Even better ask for a job price rather than hourly.

I do ask for the job price, and it is in breaking down the price that the hourly rates come up. For example when my indi quotes me for a job, he breaks down the price into labour and parts charges, and the labour charges are normally based on the number of hours taken to do the job.

It really wouldnt matter, the price of a job is the total. A quick bit of research gets you list price of parts the rest is obvious. I suspect most use LR or Thatham times anyway. The exception being timing belts and break pipes whichost Indis have worked a quicker way of doing rather than removing the body 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜
