When using the parking brake do you select drive and let in come off automatically or do you manually press down on the EPB switch to take the hand brake off.

Just curious to see what owners prefer

Hi and welcome to the site Allen Its very rare i use my EPB, but when i do, i always press the EPB switch. I know i don't have to, but its just the way i prefer to do it.

Yes, there is something horrible about the "shunt" you get when just driving off. I might do that once or twice a week if I get caught out in traffic, but generally at traffic lights, for me it is - stop, with foot on brake pull on EPB, knock it into neutral, foot off brake then foot on brake,select drive and press down EPB and drive off

I always release the EPB then drive off, just the habit I got into from the XF. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

I stop using foot brake apply EPB leave in drive then pull away and let EPB come off automatically. Very smooth and (so far) no problems.

Is it ok to go stop, with foot on brake pull, knock it into neutral, then select drive and drive off? I wonder if you put it into EPB for any other reason than to just rest your leg?

Absolutely fine to do that if you wish, but when you manually switch off the EPB it releases slowly, and if you drive off with it on, I dare say it does as well,but there is a bit of a clunk and I dare say it drags on the brake disc/drum?? For a few feet which can't be good for wear. I wouldn't say there was a right or wrong way, it's just preference and habit!

I'll try that. It was my X5 got me into no release & pull away.
So glad changed to RRS from x5

Ive never tried mine, is it a good idea to operate it every now and then ?

I normally stop, apply handbrake & when ready to set off again just start to accelerate. Occasionally I apply the footbrake & push the EPB to manually knock it off.
I don't usually bother to put the car into neutral unless I'm stopping for a length of time. I was told years ago not to bother & it just stuck with me. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.
