Driving an Evoque Loan Car

Just had an ewok dropped off for a few days Confused

First impressions are not good Shocked

Engine sounds like a bag of bolts compared to the SDV6 Rolling Eyes

This one has full length glass roof which is a good thing otherwise it would feel like being in a coffin Sad

I have to say I am very underwhelmed after the sport and given the choice would buy another Fl2 before fork out double for the ewok Thud

Will see if it grows on me but right now glad I didn't downsize though it had crossed my mind Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I felt exactly the same way when I had an Evoque courtesy car for a day. It had done < 300 miles so almost new. The SDV4 sounded very rough compared to my TDV6 even though mine is a 2.7 and not the much more refined 3.0 TDV6/SDV6. The suspension wasn't great either - felt every little bump in the road. Totally agree that the panoramic sunroof somewhat makes up for the lack of space.

Strange, I had a Evoque for two days earlier this month, I quite liked it, trim, leather and engine were better than mine, dynamic button made the dash turn red, not sure if it did anything else, maybe sharper steering, Boot fitted in my shopping, stereo was better than mine

Felt a bit of a Confused Shocked Sad Neutral Cool Embarassed driving it though, even though it had the dealer labelling on the doors felt people didn't give way, looked at me thinking Censored

Anyway, too small, doesn't tow enough and looks too much I've the new RRS Laughing

I'm not a fan of the Evoque, I would only buy one if I could have an FL2 as well. But if money was not a problem I would have an RRS. Thumbs Up

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with your new RRS, and I really hope it goes well for you. Otherwise we might see you on the FL2 forum again. Nick - if I had gone from my FL2 GS to the evoque I would probably be saying the same as you Bow down

Maybe from my old rrsport to an evoque at a stretch Confused

But from my Black edition to the evoque and with all the hype I am disappointed - I remember going from my D2 Metropolis into a FL2 GS and being blown away so considering the cost of the evoque I just expected more Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

The problem is Muddy, your comparing eveything to the sport, You can't really compare a 4 cylinder engine to the sports 6 cylinder engine, nor can you really compare anything else really. They are two totally different vehicles, i could understand it if you were comparing the new sport to the current sport, or the new FFRR to the olf FFRR. If you owned for example a ford focus and then drove a Evoque, then i'm sure your opinion of the Evoque would be totally different again. Wink I had an Evoque for a day, and yes it seemed a good all round vehicle but i feel it would be wroung of me to compare it to my sport because they are in a different league. I am surprised how well the FL2 is still selling after the launch of the Evoque, i honestly thought the Evoque would of killed the FL2 off for some reason. Confused

The Evoque and FL2 are for different people. The Evoque is more of a fashion statement, and it's for people who want to be noticed. The FL2 is for someone who isn't bothered about the latest fashion, and just wants a practical SUV that can off road when needed. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Valid point about comparing Evoque to RRS. However, I had a Jag XF Sportbrake as a loan car for a week and was surprised how smooth and quiet the diesel engine was. I believe it was a 4-cylinder but could be wrong there which would make the comparison unfair again. Still, the suspension, which has nothing to do with the engine (I think!), was much much better than the Evoque. In fact, the Evoque's suspension felt only slightly better than our Mini Cooper's Shocked and this was a nearly new Evoque, not a knackered one. My brother's 520d handles road imperfections better than the Evoque I had for a day TBH. I would expect a better suspension from something that falls within the SUV category and bears the Range Rover badge...

Having driven an Evoque at Hadley Green's event 3 months ago, I found it quite good off the tarmac though.

Returned the Evoque after 2 days and in the end grew to like the growl of the exhaust when overtaking but felt a little underpowered after the SDV6 Cool

The ride was too hard for my liking but gave a sporty feel - more like a car than a 4x4 so a bit confused by the RR badge Confused

The details in the car showed £44k value with no electric tailgate or keyless entry and sounds like a tractor at low speed Shocked

Oh how I laughed when I picked up my new Black edition Laughing Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

I took a test drive in the Evoque and found it to be noisy, a harsh ride and not comfortable.
It seems to be aimed at the more sporty car driver, not in my mind a traditional Range Rover vehicle, more a fashion statement.
The problem now being if you want a new Range Rover, they only come in 1 style , small, medium or large.
IMHO, I think JLR have lost the plot or are they just catering for the export markets. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

I too had one as a loan car and to be honest, my verdict was that it wasn't a bad car.........but there would be no way on earth I'd pay the money for one. Mrs Bean liked it too, but was of a similar verdict, we specced one up and it was just shy of £47k, at the time, for another £5k you could get into an RRS, obviously that's not he case with the new models, but for me, it remains over priced and under specced. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
MERCEDES GL350 - Metallic Navy Blue w/Grey interior

GOING: BMW F31 335D MSport+ xDrive Touring
GONE: Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE - Stornaway Grey w/Black Interior (wish we'd kept it Banging Head )
GONE: BMW F10 520D MSport - Carbon Black
GONE:MY12 RRS SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ivory/Grand Black Privacy glass
