RRS electrical fail

Hi!

First post here, having some troubles with the RRS wanted to see if someone has had the same.

The sunroof went out of function and didn't want to work, so I looked at the fuses in the car and engine but didn't find any fault but after that every little lamp has began to party in the speedo, the ESP, can't put the car in different modes (sand, snow etc..) and so on. I even get a transmission failure and can't put the car in sport mode or use the semi-auto gear change.

Went LR shop and got it reset but the problems came again, when it came to the sunroof, it was unset so he just set it.

Hope someone could help!

Thanks!

Welcome to the site Thumbs Up

From previous postings on here, it sounds like your battery (and maybe the alternator) is on the way out - check the voltage/connections. Idea

Also, check your brake bulbs......yes seriously, the RRS's are THAT temperamental Rolling Eyes

Am sure others will pop along with some other ideas too Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

the sunroof can get upset very easily... the reset procedure is quite straight forward (even though I do not know it off hand as I do not own a car with one)! so might be worth knowing how (when it does it again). Someone on here will know.

The other gremlins are probably battery related as Bean suggested. RRS gone

Thanks for the reply!

The alternator was changed nov-12, it had failed completely, had heard from the workshop that it was due to the cold weather (?). Any how, alternator is changed, but the battery is old I must say, could it be that? But then why would all these issues come up from nowhere, especially when I played with the fuses?

The brake bulbs are fine, failed at the swedish MOT but then replaced and now working can double check.

Regards

Sunroof reset procedure Thumbs Up

User Manual wrote:

SUNROOF RESET
If the battery is disconnected or the power
supply is interrupted whilst the sunroof is
partially open, it will need to be recalibrated.
Once the battery is reconnected or the power
supply is restored, recalibrate the sunroof as
follows:
1. Switch the ignition on.
2. With the sunroof closed, press and release
the front of the switch. The sunroof will
move to the tilted position.
3. Press the front of the sunroof switch and
hold for 20 seconds.
4. After 20 seconds, the sunroof will begin to
move. Keep the front of the switch pressed
until the fully open/close cycle has
completed.
5. Once the sunroof has stopped moving,
release the switch.
The sunroof can now be operated as normal.

if your alternator failed Nov then it may have damaged the battery (or certainly effected it's life). RRS gone

sunroof now working, it seemed just needed a reset.

is it a coincidens that the gremlins came when I played with the fuses?

God only knows.

As Bean said, they are very sensitive and the smallest of things can trigger seemingly unconnected errors. RRS gone

Check the output if you can and see what it's at, if it's low, then it's a fair indicator that it'll be on it's way out and the next bought of cold weather will probably kill it. If you're in Sweden Question I guess the battery take a pounding from the severe weather Idea ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
