Buying a range rover sport

Im looking at buying a second hand range rover sport, im looking at the TDV8 and would be useing it everyday But after reading some of the things on here im not sure if it would be a good buy. there is lots of people saying how good they are which is great to here but then you here all about the problems you can get and its sounds off putting, are RRS realy that bad when it comes to problems? i cant afford to buy brand new and would be looking for one at about £25,000. what are the warranty's like on second hand RRS for the money i can afford to spend im looking at 07-09 plate with 60-80,000 miles on the clock. is there any owners on here that have bought one for the same sort of price and miles and not had any major problems.

your feedback would be most helpfull.

There are plenty out there that won't get bother, and plenty that will. For your budget and limited funds after, don't buy a Range Rover full stop. The running costs are huge, fuel, road tax servicing and Tyres. Services are strong via dealer network and for the age and mileage your looking at, you want peace of mind cover which your not going to get and will at very least have to contribute to any major repairs along with warrantee. I know of the very car, 50k in the clock, full history and well looked after, virtually every extra on it....am sure wont be too long before its in sale Thumbs Up
Seriously if your worried about potential future costs, this is not the car to buy. A d excuse if I sound flippant, far from it Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Its warranty and warranties, why can't you spell? There is a big red line under the word when its wrong.

BigMark, the Simpleton is right, don't buy at that price point and mileage. Its impossible to say whether you would be lucky or unlucky but if unlucky, its big money. If you really want one, buy a cheaper TDV6 and stick some money away for repairs as they are bound to happen, sadly.

I haven't had a murmur from my 2009 yet from new but I am always waiting. Luckily, I don't care what it costs, I like my car, I don't want a new one or a new new one.

2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I've had my 57 TDV8 for 2 1/2 years now, done 35k miles (was on 40k when I got it and it's now on 75k), has cost me a small fortune in servicing.. and I still love it.

Warranty Direct cover the major issues. (currently £625 per annum)

I get it valeted once every 3 months and machine polished once a year, the rest I do myself.

No major issues, just the odd electrical gremlin and a shed load of cosmetic mods Whistle RRS gone

Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

RRS 4.2 S/C. 18 months. Nothing has gone wrong. BUT ! I've spend a fair bit on 'pre-emptive' repairs - fixing them before they go wrong.

Suspension compressor, radiator and air-con rad, brake discs and pads, ARB bushes and a detailed valet - thats it !

Broke down on motorway once, only because the mechanic didn't adjust the EPB when putting in new rear pads.

£400 a year insurance, £290 tax - thats it ! Oh, and £12k on fuel !!  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

Only being offered £29500 for my 59 plate 3.0 HSE TDV6 with 29k miles and full Lr warranty/assist/mot cover until Nov 2014 so £25k sounds expensive with 60-80k miles for 07-09 Shocked

My previous LR's have been very reliable until the RRS with issues down to poor quality control and dealer incompetence Evil or Very Mad

Reading simple1 and others posts I will never own a Lr without a full warranty now because I can not afford to set aside £1000's in case they go wrong Rolling Eyes

Despite my recent troubles I am buying another because nothing else has the prestige and driver satisfaction of a RRS for the money IMHO Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

depends on the company Thumbs Up

I use Warranty Direct and every claim I made they've paid up.

My local dealership told me a recent customer with an AA warranty found that even though the part was covered under the policy, they wanted proof, and they would NOT cover that bit of the claim... in this instance it was a failed turbo... so the cost of stripping down the turbo had to be met by the customer... ouch.... RRS gone
