Jay, Arcam has a new 7.1 Amp out very soon that upgrades the AVR300 and certainly includes 2 switchable HDMI inputs. This is something you will likely need as you've only got one socket on your Pioneer box or you buy as I have done a twin QED switchable HDMI box at about £170 (they also do a 4 way box at about £250).
Why do you need it, well it allows you to connect dvd and Sky HD via HDMI. The Blueray players coming next year. Also any game consoles etc. Means you don't need to fiddle and change connections manually which may result in a poor connection due to wear on the socket. Wink TDV6 - gone

Jay, if it's a girlfriend you're after try pubs, clubs, bars etc.

If it's a companion your after, try a retirement home, bingo hall that kind of thing.

You're all wrong - as soon as you buy something - it's out of date and superceded by something better.

For instance Samsung now offer a 10000:1 contrast ratio Shocked

Take a look at the new sony plasma based on the NEW " x " series platform [if you can find a review ] Wink

Would agree though Pioneer/sony/ Philips/Panasonic = take your pick

im very much behind on the ol' home cinema stuff.. my brother in law is well into it (gecko on here) with all his projector, and built in speaker system and amps etc.. makes for an excellent home cinema!

Im still running a 1993 Toshiba 38" and a 47" Samsung rear projector telly in the conservatory.. how crap.. i do have some Kef and B&W speakers though and a Yamaha amp so at least the sound is ok.., but hardly Hitech and up to the minute....

Looking to replace the Toshiba right now, how much can i get a decent 42" ish LCD for? i get lost on the web with so much stuff available.. wouldn't know a good deal if it came up and bit me on the nose! Embarassed

Kam,

Right now I would advise if you are looking at 42" + ,it is alot cheaper to buy Plasma than LCD.
Contrary to what some people say Plasma is hard to beat, especially if you buy Pioneer.
Eg. Fast moving action will blurr on LCD and not on plasma. Wink TDV6 - gone

I completely agree with Josh - I find it so hard to convince my customers of this I have finally given up - I even run a back to back demo to show the difference and they still dont see it.

Thanks guys.. so Plasma is the better buy right now..
But i had heard that the life of a plasma was less then lcd.. although won't use this tv to death, don't really want to be replacing it after a couple of years..

Was talking with my brother in law tonight over dinner.. and he suggested just getting another rear projector, around the 40" size, as they are bargains and suit the room real well..

hmm..

I heard that a plasma will last 50.000 hours (or more now) for something like 3 years! (or what ever it is i just saying here) it will last that long if you left it on 24/7 So if you watch it for 4 hours a day think it will last a bit longer then 3 years. We've had our first plasma for about 5 years now! RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

With Plasma on average family use you should expect up to 10 years life out of it. When was the last time you kept a telly for 10 years without upgrading it Exclamation
They say Lcd lasts longer than that.......but no one has had one for that long yet Exclamation So who knows. Where as Plasma has been around a long time.

You can get a 50" plasma Pioneer now for the price of a 43" 2 years ago. The prices are dropping steadly. Pioneer are the best.

The other prob with LCD is they are too bright. Not enough contrast so the picture is not as natural as plasma. TDV6 - gone
