England

I missed this but I find it hard watching this sort of thing Sad

My Grandad and Uncle were there - My uncle was helmsman on a landing craft and had to recover bodies afterwards - he came back mentally scarred and took to the bottle destroying his marriage and health. My Grandad was a hat maker before the war but missed the birth and first 5 years of his daughters life - came back to unemployment a shell of his former self according to my Gran. He ended up a bin man and street sweeper being called names by kids. To me he was the kindest most loving person I ever knew Bow down

SWMBO's Grandad enlisted despite being a fisherman and having an exemption. He was torpedoed and lost at sea 3 weeks before the end of the war Shocked

Sadly people like them are being forgotten and do not receive the respect they deserve. If we ever faced a situation again like they did it would be hopeless Evil or Very Mad

I dont think it will happen again though because the uk has been taken over by foreign business's rather than a military invasion. My Grandad predicted this but none of us listened Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy the sad thing is back then PTSD wasn't really know which is what your grandfather clearly had.
Again all we can do is say thanks to the old boys and help them out anyway we can.
As long as we still have an armed forces these men will never be forgotten don't you worry and the new boys will make sure of this and we will always raise a glass and say thank you to them.

I once had the privelidge of drinking with bill sparks on of the cockle shell heros wouldn't let me buy a drink even though I felt we owed him far more thank a couple of whisksy such a humble man and thought nothing of the fact of what he had done and surrvived even though it was a suicide mission. only the dead truely know peace,
Bootneck its not a job its a way of life!

Tell me about it - In the late 80's I lived next door to an Ex-para who was in the Falklands - used to hear him screaming in the night until his wife left him and he moved away. My cousins brother in law was hit on HMS Sheffield and he has never recovered mentally from the trauma. They had no support Sad

I find the games for XBox, etc that glorify killing distasteful - war is not entertainment Evil or Very Mad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

As I understand it, one of my uncles was involved in liberating/clearing up (not sure which) one of the Nazi concentration camps. Would never talk about it. Even my aunt didn't know about it until the 1980s and even then he never said anything about it other than that he'd been there. That's a lot of bad memories to keep locked up for so long. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
