Well I guess you could check the battery terminals in case they are loose and/or corroded. The symptoms you describe certainly sounds like a battery failure of some sort. If battery terminals are tight and clean on the mating surfaces then maybe an earthing strap is loose or corroded - not sure where they all are but think there is one near the battery and another between the transfer case and the chassis. Good luck 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Does sound like a dead battery. Perhaps a dead alternator too? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

^^^ Yup, alternator could have given up the ghost, meaning you've just been draining the battery. Not an uncommon problem from what I've seen on here ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Rac been out and put jump leads on car, tested battery and it's at 10 volts so suspect alternator has gone down and is draining the battery faster than it can keep up, got to wait another hour now for a recovery vehicle to take me to a garage and try get it fixed for tomorrow when I'm due to go home, anyone any ideas how much an alternator plus fitting costs? The rac man thought its around a 3.5 hour job 2008 RRS TDV8 java black on black leather 20" wheels

your issue is definately alternator. I woul dget the battery disconnected ASAP otherwiuse it will destroy it (if it hasnt already) and you dont want to fork out 350 for a new LR battery on top of the alternator.

Finally got home last night. It was the alternator, went in to a local 4x4 specialist late Thursday night the guy was great he stayed late to get my car in and had a quick look we decided it was definatley the alternator. He spent all Friday morning ringing around parts places for me and eventually got one delivered for 2oclock. 2 came and I got a phone call saying it was the wrong alternator and the right one wouldn't be coming until 6 so it was going to be another day. We started looking for b and bs, found one then called him at half 5 to double check the part wasn't in, joy of joys it was and he had all 3 mechanics putting it back together for me. An hour and the best part of 600 quid later I was on the road home, with just one problem there is a problem with the wiring somewhere between the alternator and the warning light on the dash as its staying on all the time allthough it's charging at just under 14v and the battery is perfect, anyone got a clue what it could be please? It drove perfect home last night and started fine this morning 2008 RRS TDV8 java black on black leather 20" wheels
