Could you fit a 2011 steering wheel to a 2006? 91 BMW 850CSI

After changing two standard wheels and getting the sticky goo the third time, I have done exactly this. Fitted a 2011 smooth leather wheel. It's a little bit thicker than originals which is nice, and only had to swop switch backing as mine had voice command. Was 10 minute job. Retail on wheel is £279 plus tax, got brand new genuine wheel for £170 off fleebay  2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Didn't think it would be possible, it has got me thinking now. Do all the buttons and switches work?

All works on my car. The backs just clip off so used my original backs and switch packs and changed firing ring for my original. All fits, and air bag hasn't gone off or brought light on. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Does the air bag from a 2006 Model fit onto a 2011 model ? Or do you need to replace the wheel and air bag?

I'm very interested too. I was reading a post from the disco3 forum about putting in D4 steering wheel in a D3 which is basically same as the 2010 RRS steering wheel into a pre-2009. The complexity of it seems beyond what I can do. Nonetheless it was still interesting to see some of the functions working.
