United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black
What to do, need some advice

Hello everyone, new to the forum.
I have got the bug for a RRS, had a FFRR many years ago and now looking to get a RRS.
My dilema is do I buy the current model or save my pennies and order the new model.
I have a budget of circa £55K, been looking at late Autobiography cars and they are tempting.
Would be going for the diesel, as it would be my day to day drive.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Ask the dealer if they can supply a new "old" model at a discount price. If they can still get stock you may be pleasantly surprised. Thumbs Up 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

If you're happy to have a poverty-spec Sport then the new one will fit your budget. If you want to have toys and the ability to tow / go off road "out of the box" then you'll be needing the older Sport. To get a new Sport with a similar spec to the old one you'd need to add £10k to your budget. You'll probably get a better vehicle (yes, I think the new Sport will be a very good vehicle if spec'd correctly) that way but you'll have to pay to get it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

£55k........... you'd not be a million miles from a new Autobiography. I am away on holiday, therefore if you would like to email Matthew Gurney (Sales Manager @ HGG) then he'll look after you.

Having driven one of the last 4.4 TDV8 Vogue FFRR for a courtesy car last summer for a month I would not be going from a FFRR to a RRS Shocked

The RRS feels so slow and the interior looks cheap now - if I had £55k I would be looking for a Westminster Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

A Westminster would be nice, that's for sure. A real shame that the 4.4TDV8 didn't fit in the RRS...

One could also get a new D4 HSE with some choice options for £55k. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Wait for a new one or get an FFRR. The new RRS is going to be streets ahead of the current model in terms of handling and dynamics with its lower weight and not having a ladder chassis. The current RRS is going to look very dated in a few months when the new model is out properly. Remember the current one was conceived in the early 2000s for an 05 release. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2009 Buckingham Blue RRS 2.7 TDV6

Gone - 2017 Chawton White RRS 5.0 V8 Supercharged
Current - 2010 Java Black RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Current- 2024 RRS P400 SE Dynamic

I agree BKHK - I think the new RRS will make the old one feel very old. As most RRS are tarmac queens anyway, the on-road manners will be miles ahead of the current version. Off road, correctly spec'd of course, it will also be excellent thanks to greatly improved clearances and the TR2 system.

The only problems with the new RRS is the slightly Evoque look and the vastly increased prices.

I expect lots of basic examples to be bought as people want the 4x4 look without the whole "mud and grot" side of it. The Audi-style 4x4 system will be good enough to get little Johnny to school on the 3 days it snows each year. And Mummy will get lots of brownie points at the school gate for spending silly money on a new car.

Need to tow? No. Need to mud-plug? No. Want a 4x4 to feel safe and get around on frosty days? Yes. Want to have the "latest thing"? Yes. Then you need a new Range Rover Sport. All of the badge prestige you could want for less money than the real thing.

If I'm not in a second hand FFRR in three years time then a well spec'd second hand HSE Dynamic might well be in my sights. I've driven less-than-pretty cars before and I'm happy to do so again. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Alternative option - save £15k and plump for a mint conditioned 2010/2011 supercharged with all specification boxes ticked. Several available in the 10-25k mile range between £38-£44k.

It's the path I have chosen given a similarly specced new-model RRS would be c.£85k per current costings/options sheet. Twisted Evil Maserati MC Stradale 2016

Or Evoque Look Whistle Exclamation

I think its a little more complex - ive not driven it yet granted, but im not sure its going to be lightening better than the current sport on or off road...the current sport is very good - yes i agree it will be improved, even better - but how much and whether this is MASSIVE...im not so sure yet.

Weight saving, CO2, MPG improvements are all welcomed and it will be a good car - again im not sure great, it still lacks something on the current sport i feel, to clarify that isnt to say it wont be good in its own right, but will it be as good as the sport was when it was launched.

As for the basic spec, or seriously increased price, of the new sport thats a significant negative. Not to mention the design

Remember some of the advanced dynamic stuff they go on about is only available in the dynamic or as an option - so when we talk about improved dynamics, that's only if you spend yet more ££ on the new one making the new features/benefits you talk about £15-20k more than what you could currently get for 10k less.

At the end of the day, would i buy the current sport or wait for the new one now...i don't know - probably buy something different and wait a year if you pushed me, but if the sport was my option, with the right deal, i would get the current one with a view to changing in 12 months.

Given i have had 2 seperate dealer emails trying to get a deposit for the new sport out of me, saying there are slots available....casting my mind back to both the evoque and the last sport launches and not remembering them needing to chase my interest via email - i cant help but feel there is some reservation out there (and/or people dont want to be the test mules).

None of that probably helps the OP Rolling with laughter Mike

Thanks for all of the replies. Lots of good advice and options to think about.
I am going to Hadley Green on Saturday to see what deals are on offer on the Current RRS.
The cost of the new RRS is a definite negative, sure I think it will probably be a better car, but £20k better is a matter of opinion.
May well look at the FFRR as another option.
Will let you know the outcome.

I had a similar dilemma to you 6 weeks ago. In the end the sizeable discount I negotiated on a highly specked HSE BLack edition swung it for me and IMO made taking the risk on residuals in a few years time worthwhile
