2.7 TDV6 Hesitates whilst driving and makes a Sh Sh Sh noise

HI Chaps,

This is a weird one, my car is an 05 2.7 with 107k on, it has been well serviced all it's life. It has developed an intermittent fault that appears to get worse as the engine/box warms up. The car pulls okay but there is a strange Sh Sh Sh Sh noise and when this gets louder the car appears to hesitate.

I have had the car checked over and we can't find anything obvious wrong.

Also, the car has a vibration that appears at appx 1,800rpm and circa 30mph, it is like is more rubber vibration feel than clunky mechanical. I need some help, we are going mad trying to figure it out.

First thought was possible EGR valve sticking, so i have just ordered a blanking kit, cheap and easy to get fixed and worth doing anyway.

Second was to change the ATF fluid in the gearbox and replace the filter thinking it could be effecting the torque convertor.

Third, well here we are out of ideas, it can't (or I don't think it is) be a major mechanical competent due to the soft intermittent effect it has on the car.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Sounds like a split intercooler hose, check the top and bottom ones for any splits. Sometimes it's necessary to remove it to identify any splits.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi,
Thanks for your response, I understand why you think that it could be a intercooler pipe, we have checked this out and they are fine. I have fitted the EGR blanking plates and the car runs much better, in fact, for £17 of parts and £35+VAT to fit I should have done this ages ago. The noise appears to be more mechanical rather than air/pressure loss, my tech reckons that it could be a OSF drive shaft, this does kind of make sense, he is away now for 10 days, but i will update this on my return.

In the meantime, I am thinking of selling up and buying a new ML250 Sport....... I love my RRS, but hate the running costs...... sad day for my RRS, other than a FFRR, there is no better car to be sat in. Sad Sad Sad
