Spare key doesn't work?

Had my 08 RRS HSE a few weeks now, had a few problems with the dealer on collection (see other post re 4x4 tunbridge) one of the issues is with the spare key, it didn't work when I collected the vehicle, the dealer said if I use it it should charge up but if it doesnt work its my problem, how nice of them!! having now used it for a few weeks it does lock the door but doesn't open it? Do I need a new key? I suspect this will cost a few hard earned pounds!?
Thanks in advance for any help

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Not sure if 2008 are the same as 2010 but I had to change the batteries in both of mine around the same time but it came up on the dash "key fob battery low"
I'm not sure if my old '57' plate charged them while in the ignition but my current vehicle definitely doesn't
Hope this helps, it should tell you in your user manual if they charge while in the ignition though

Cheers nick
I'm 99% sure they charge when in the ignition
I've had no warning in the dash
I've heard you can change the battery in the key as this is what recharges when in the ignition, but it's a bit tricky as its soldered in
Don't really want to open the key if there's an easier solution
Heard a new key can cost £150 RRS 2.7 HSE TDV6 2008
