Painting metal trim on side steps

Hi

I'm wanting to paint the metal trim on my after-market side steps as the metal has started to tarnish. I'm not sure if the trim is aluminium or powder coated metal, and therefore I'm not sure what I need to paint it.

Has anybody tried this, or any suggestions for products? I was thinking perhaps smooth Hammerite?

Thanks for any input.

Fine wet and dry with auto sol and a lot of elbow grease brought mine up a treat. Then sealed with auto glym high gloss sealer and they are much easier to keep clean now RRS TDV8 HST

I reattached mine with self tapping screws. easy job even for someone as useless with a spanner/screwdriver as me
Put it in off road and no need to remove them Smile

If yours is coming off I'd do this sooner than later or you might lose it on a journey and never see it again Big Cry 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

Painting metal trim

Hi,
Mine were put on fairly recently, but what with the snow and general crap weather here in west yorks, they have tarnished as well, I tried Autosol, and Meguiars metal polish, but not wet n dry with a bit of elbow grease....just booked them in the bodyshop for painting in Java Black next Tuesday, I'll let you know the outcome and hopefully post pics.
Mike.

They will get stone chipped to hell Big Cry Best thing to use on them to help cleaning is a few coats of a good wax, it makes one hell of a difference next time you clean them. Thumbs Up

Painting underway...

Ady 555,

Your very likely to be right Ady 555, but I'm seriously lazy.
It needed some other bits doing, so, hopefully so decent laquer will protect them. Confused
Should get it back tomorrow.

Anybody filled dents in these alloy trims?

Got some new ones at a good price because they had some slight dents in the alloy trim, not sure wether to just fit them as they are or fill the dents and paint now?

I know they take a bit of stick where they’re mounted. Steve
