some of the Porsche forums are full of Cayenne owners stories of pulling Range Rover Sports out of snowy ditches!! i suppose if you like a marque, you tend to defend it to the hilt, but as you say, a range rover sport with rubber bands on is as much use as a chocolate tea pot in snow!

back on topic, the boot floor space in the Evoque is nearly the same size as a freelander, but the parcel shelf lets it down (its about 18" wide) if Digby can squeeze his gead through that then it would be ok, but you couldnt put a cage or a travel kennel it there.

As an owner of an Evoque since Sept 2011 there is no way that your friend would get an Old English Sheepdog in the back of a 5 door Evoque let alone the Coupe version with it's slightly lower roofline - even with the seats folded it wouldn't work as the way they fold is downright dangerous if you have anything loose in the boot area nad have to stop suddenly, unlike RRS the rear seat backs don't tumble on top of swab then fold vertical, only the seat backs fold down. She should look at a Freelander2 although their boot is pretty patehtic with the rear seats up too. I assume that the tax liability on a Disco4 would be too great for her?
Plenty of owners use dog cages in Evoques but not for something the size of an Old English!

BTW - don't knock the 2WD Freelander and Evoque - they are very very capable off road and with proper tyres on will go most places their 4WD versions will go. It's not as stupid as it sounds having a 2WD Land Rover - anyway some of the series Land Rovers were 2WD with selectable 4WD so it isn't a new thing to have 2WD Land Rovers. She would probably be as well off looking at a Mini Countryman All4, if the awful front end doesn't put her off. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I live in Perth = winter a bit like your summer.

Performance in snow wasn't top of my list when I was car shopping.

If the Evoque was done with a 6 cylinder diesel instead of the 4 cylinder engines which are a bit rough , I probably would have been very tempted because I never go off road. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

£45,000 if it was one of the launch cars - and it isn't yet two years old it's only 19 months old............ as first customer deliveries started on 9th Sept 2011 (the day I took delivery of mine). Just on the snow points above - Range Rover Sports are very good in the snow...there are two factors however:
1) People who havent got the right tyres (im not talking about full winters snow tyres, but something more than summer tyres...yes yes M+S is fine (waiting for someone to say its x/y/z)
2) People that think terrain response is the only thing to "save them" you still have to know how to control the car and its systems. I bet most people who have got a sport stuck and been pulled by a porsche havent every thought to turn DSC off as an example

In germany, in the snow and on the autobahns with the snow falling the sport was perfect and in the UK's recent snow...just fine. Mike
