When is a facelift a facelift or model change

I was just thinking about how we go about talking about the different models and facelifts when the new RRS comes out. Currently it seems we are happy to go with model year denoting what the car is and we know from that what vehicle we are talking about. But we are soon to have a new model.

Will this be the RRS2, like Disco1, 2, 3, 4 etc...?

The facelift that came about on the RRS in 2010 seems to be ignored as a model change (ultimately because the body is the same) however I wondered if we ought to be thinking about RRS1 Mk1 (pre 2010), RRS1 Mk2 (post 2010) and then RRS2 (when it comes out). Or will we just stick with MY for RRS1 and so follow the same with RRS2?

Thoughts? 2018 RR Velar R-Dynamic, Silver/Ebony, Privacy Glass, lots of toys

2008 RRS HSE TDV6, Stornaway/Ebony, Privacy Glass, Tow Pack (Gone)
1985 LR Series 3 SWB, Canvas Top, Firestone SATs (Gone)

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

We all currently drive RRS1.

Next year some people will be driving RRS2.

If those with facelifted versions feel the need, perhaps the current ones could be 1 and 1A for pre- and post-facelift.

Actually, if the new Sport is to be based on the new FFRR platform, we should call the current model DS (Discovery Sport) and the new one RRS (Range Rover Sport). Would be more accurate Rolling with laughter

Or we could just carry on as we have been using MY numbers. We'll all know that MY14 is the new one after all... Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes, i like your classification!

Do we know how dear the new one will be yet? If it's going to have its pricing aligned to the new FFRR at entry point £72k I assume we'd be looking at £65k-ish?

Any bets?? Rod

My thougths exactly - hence the new "HSE Black" in the drive.

"Indications" from a reputable source are current RRS prices +10% (at least)

The new model will be a very different creature, so they can justify an uplift how ever they like! Mind you wasn't there a sizeable uplift for the MY'10 facelift, circa £6k on an HSE or something like that? 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

Isn't model change when the vehicle's model number changes ? E.g. From L322 to L405 for the FFRR ?

While the RRS is an L320, surely all changes are facelifts ?

An HSE is currently listing at £58k and sports pretty much every available option ticked as standard.

I would expect the new HSE to start at around £60k but also I would expect many of the options from the current model to no longer be ticked as standard.

Hence like for like, to my mind the current HSE Black fully discounted represents at least £10k of extra value over the new model price wise. It's also the same reason why I bought the Lux. But, having said all of that I'm still going to want a new one whatever the price, because I'm sure it'll be an improvement.

I've promised to stick to my RRS1 Mk3 for the next few years, well, until a RRS2 4.4SDV8 HSE comes along. 2018 RR Velar R-Dynamic, Silver/Ebony, Privacy Glass, lots of toys
