window tinting

I did search before posting (i'll make sure I remember about that sensor Laughing ) but thought I would ask anyway;

I have contated a few places (including pentagon), there seems to be a large difference in price as well as fitting options

Prices vary between £225 and £450
time taken between 2 hours and 1 day
cover from full window, to just the visible part

Pentagon seem to offer a "dust free" service, but only cover the visible part, and are the most expensive

whereas Ultimate tinting remove the glass,m andcover the whole lot, for less money.

Can you guys comment on the diff options (not sure I want my car pulled to bits, although it does seem like a more thorough option) Stornaway Grey/Ebony TDV8 HST, September 3rd Smile

My whole car has been done by Executive Tints of Nottingham. I have posted their contact details before on a thread somewhere.

They did not take out the glass but you cannot tell at all, you can;t see any non tinted bits.

Total cost was about £450 from them I think, and that includes Dealership mark up. L319 D4 HSE

I can't see that any window tinter takes out the glass. If they did it would cost a lot more than £500 and there would be considerable risk of trim (and clips) breakage.
I got a few quotes to get a previous Merc ML tinted. Pentagon were the most expensive at about £650. Other firms were about £350-£400.

Both my RRS and D3 have been done at the LR dealer by a local guy who works for himself. I saw him do some of the D3 tinting. He washed the interior and extrior of the glass and then stuck the film on the outside. He cut it to shape and used a hot air dryer to form it to the shape of the glass. Then removed the film and stuck it to the inside.
The job cost me £400 which was the same as the factory option (as a stock car was available without the factory option). I benefitted from then being able to have two shades of tint - darkest available in the rear, then slightly lighter in the middle, but still darker than the factory privacy glass.

You have to look very hard to notice there is a film on the glass. Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

Window tints

I have always used Autoshades in Sutton, Surrey. They don't remove the windows but you would never notice. £300 all round on the RRS. 2 hrs and a dust free enviroment.
I've had 2 disco's and 2 defenders done there too.... fantastic!!

We used Pentagon - top notch job.

You'd never know they don't remove the glass and to be honest, I wouldn't want anyone to do so.

Looking for a tinter for mt RS4.
Got a quote off Pentagon, and they wanted something like £450 for the normal tints, and £650 for the superglass, decided to forget about pentagon and started looking elsewhere, but i just don't trust some joey mobile guy with my RS4 and my dads A8, so i decided to approach pentagon again.
PaulL who took the other RS4 off our hands, managed to get his tinted, all round by pentagon manchester for £255+ VAT, so i rang them up and yes they quoted the same for mine..

I then asked for quote for the A8, and being a much more labour intensive job with the window seals (as every pro tinter has told me) its going to cost £395 + VAT for that car. But if i give them both, he would do it for £550+ Vat which im thinking is a steal.

However can't be asked to trapse to Manchested twice and have to hang around all day, so i rang Bham branch and asked them for their prices, and yes the rip off extortionate prices were requoted, and i went into quite some detail asking for best deal, and for both cars etc, and it was still very expensive compared, so i asked, as you franchises, he said not really no, so you're the same company, with same product, procedures etc, and he said yes. So i asked him why there was sooo much price discrepancy between the two, and asked him to call manchester to the bloke i spoke to and find out how the deal was being done.. he agreed to price match but said that was too cheap as far as he knew. Hopefully getting a call back tommorow morning, so lets see.. shows there are deals to be done..

Thanks PaulL for the info.. hopefully won't have to make trip to Manch, but for the price difference involved, would gladly do so!

Have to say that I hope the finished product looks a lot better than the spy shots I've seen (inc this one). It doesn't look like it's deserving of the M badge at all.

Pentagon got back to me, the Bham branch, apparently Manchester branch don't have a lot of work on right now, hence the brilliant prices they quoted, he said he would do me a deal of £750 all in on the A8 and RS4, so there is still £104.00 difference on the two.. is that worth 2 trips up to manchester and wasting two days hanging around.. hmm tempting..

I asked if they would do my brother in laws S4 as well, and work us a price of £900 all in for the three cars, that would mean £300 a car inclusive VAT..

Anyone else need their car doing? Feel a group buy coming on..

Ref: M3 pics.. it looks very bad right now, wait till the coupe comes out though in Sept and then when the sport models roll out later on, we will have a better idea. Im sure the M3 will be Phat.. it has to be to beat the RS4.. !

Autocar were really impressed with it, weren't they? I haven't read it yet, but the cover says something like "is this the best car you can buy?" Really looking forward to what the new M3 can do. I still regret getting rid of mine.... Crying or Very sad
