2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Luxury Orkney Grey
Towing Electrics

Hi everybody, I have moved over from the Disco site, finally took the plunge (today) and upgraded to a RRS, pick it up next week. Been using Disco since the early 90's, my last one being a Disco 4 XS 2011. Know the proud owner of a 2012 HSE Lux in Orkney Grey. Always got great help on the Disco site and looking forward to more of the same now I have a posher car.
I have one quick question if anybody can help, I normally take my towing gear from car to car, can see I think that the tow bar will fit but not sure about the electrics, any advise greatly welcome. Regard Rob

Same loom and layout so theory says it should be doable. If it were me I would have the swan neck and get yourself new electrics. The sockets might be protected but usually go green with time so opertunity to get some new shiney bits. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈

Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Hi,
I agree with simple1 but , I think the wiring loom changes between 2011 &2012. If you look on Duckworth (site sponsor) site, they will supply a landrover part at a reasonable price. This is an easy DIY job, the instructions that come with the new wiring are hard to follow, top tip the bumper cover has to come off. This is a simple job, but I missed this picture and could not work out where the extra wire had to go Whistle but a quick call to Duckworth cleared it up Thumbs Up

Cheers

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.
Funnily enough, I'm just about to move in the opposite direction!
After 2 RRS's over 6 years. I have decided on a change and have bought
an Disco HSE Lux which I get on 1st March. I am keeping the removable
tow bar but am definately having new electrics fitted to the Disco. Would
not want to transfer 3 year old electrics over as the risk of faults would
not be worth the saving. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

You have to change the electrics anyway...they changed almost every year since mid 10.

Fitting is easy, you can access everything with the bumper off...plugs are on top Mike

Hi Guys, thanks for all the info. Seems a simple job except for the removal of the bumber, and advice on this would be welcome, are there any photos or diagrams to explain how to do this, Cheers Rob

Hi,
The removal of the bumper is easy, it shows the location of the screws in your handbook. It is only the size, and somewhere to put it safe that is a problem.
Do not be put off.
The hardest part for me was removing the rear lights, they are held in by two screws, but the seal takes a good hold. I think the instructions say remove both, but I think you can manage with only passenger side removed.

You need to fully remove the bumper to fit the electrics.

Removing the bumper is a straight forward job and documented on here:
- Remove the lights (2 screws for each unit - but a rag on the top of the bumper to protect it and pull)
- Remove the Grey kick plate and pop out the plastic rivets
- Undo 3 screws at each wheel (rear)
- Undo 4 screws along the bottom
- Pop the bumper sides (clips behind) off from the wing
- Pop the last remaining plastic lugs and walk backwards (easier with 2 people) job done Mike

Thanks for all the help, decided to have a go. Contacted a seller on Ebay who turned out to be Beadles of Sidcup and the guy there advised the following-

"Hi, these can be fitted yourself as they simply just plug into the loom and
mount under the bumper but your vehicle will have to go to a Land Rover main
dealer to have these configured to the vehicle otherwise they will not work."

I replied-

"Hi, thanks for the reply. Will they completely not work or just the
additional features (parking sensors etc) that will not work."

He then replied-

"Hi Rob, no i'm afraid they won't work until they are configured to the vehicle."

This was not the impression I get from all of the other posts and your good advise. Is he correct?

Thanks

Rob

MSE, How did you activate it? Or did you have to get dealer or specialist to do it? 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Have fitted eBay system to disco 4. Only thing that didn't work properly was parking sensors. On my car they switch off when trailer is plugged in. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
