Welcome Neil, Have same year and model. Don't make same mistakes as me with the key. I had the same situation and spent a happy few hours changing the internal battery on the spare key only to find it still didn't work until I had it coded to the car. First get someone to check if the key is transmitting a signal. Most decent garages have one of the little test devices. If it is transmitting but not opening the car or starting it the chances are the other key has been recoded at some time which means the spare key has a different code and hence does not work. Take the car along to a good independent LR specialist with both keys and in about 10 minutes they can recode both keys for you. The good thing about this is that if there are any other keys knocking about they will no longer work in your car. The key battery recharges via an induction loop whilst it is in the ignition but if the battery is flat it should still start the car since this relies on a passive transponder - but only if it is coded to the car. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE |
