New to Range Rovers looking for advice as looking to buy

Hello guys

I have been browsing around the net looking at various Range Rover Sports

I have seen one which i really like it is a 2005 model 55 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6 HSE
it has 87,000 miles.
Its had many facelift options and bespoke interior upgrade.

my budget is about £20-£25K

Because i am new to Landrover can anyone help me in terms of:

What engine is recommended
what common problems are their with this particular model
what particular things should i check when buying
costs of running (approx) eg; MPG ROAD TAX MAINTAINANCE COSTS

If anyone can point me in the right direction i would be very grateful

When buying, don't worry about upgrades which have been done to someone else's taste.

FACT - in the used market, "upgrades" are essentially worthless, often poorly executed and may mask the excellent ride quality of the standard car on 19" or 20 "wheels.

Buy as NEW as you can afford. Get warranty if you can (hard now with a pre-facelift car) The TDV6 2.7 is fine unless you want to spend mega $ on fuel and are desperate for the sound of a V8.

A TDV8 will cost you more so will be older for your $

Good luck, nice cars, although I have an X5! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Current - 2010 Java Black RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated

2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

FYI, I paid £26k for a 57 reg TDV8 with 42k in Java Black + black leather. It has full LR service history, 4 new Pirelli tyres fitted and is pretty much mint - bought from a non LR dealer. It has a 2 yr warranty & got the alternator done on day 1 (£500) +30point LR check which highlighted hydro-bushes, so once they are fixed, again under warranty... Happy days Thumbs Up

£24k should secure a very nice 2.7TDV6 HSE with <40k miles, just seen one on Autotrader with only 32k miles...

Having the same dilemma Saf, torn between newer one with more miles or older one with less miles!? My budget is the same as yours and I have found a few 06/07 plates, 40k miles for the same money as 08/09 plates with 60k miles.
Is there a new shape being released this year along the same lines as the FFRR? As it may well be worth waiting to see if the prices come down a bit, as often is the case when newer models are released.
I believe the tax increases on cars registered after March 2006, or thereabouts, not sure of the exact date.
Good luck with your search, it's an absolute minefield. Current transport : Audi S4 V8 Cabriolet, Suzuki GSXR600 K1
Previous: BMW 535D ACS, Mercedes CLK, Merecdes ML, Honda CBR600.

The new RRS is likely to be out next year (2014) although we hope that might be late 2013... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
