Have you had scorpion m+s in the past or were they the crapinentals

I have never had winter tyres but Monday on 3" soft snow it felt like I was driving a sledge and never experienced such terrible handling since I ditched cars in 1997 in favour of 4x4's but yesterday on compact snow/ice showing -1 outside I had total control

All I can say is never had a problem with any previous m+s tyres including 19" wranglers last 2 winters on the RRS until Monday on the scorpions  Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Rrs, d3/d4, ffrr are all good on STD road tyres in the snow.
Too much loud pedal and you'll go nowhere, too little and you'll go nowhere.
Use the terrain response setting for snow will help ease the traction down but may feel a little slow on the take up as it will start in 3rd gear with the torque converter controlling the traction.

If you find a slippy hill, press the big yellow button and it will help you down the hill.
I've used it on mountainous ice in the alps with fantastic results when defenders and land cruisers were heading off piste, the d3/rrs breezed it.

I find myself deliberately goinin onto the most treacherous hills around here to try to get stuck. Only manage it when I stop at the steepest parts and then drive off, even then a little careful steering and off it goes. Might help that I have Goodyear MTR's on, but STD tyres will do almost as well.

To be honest the only time i have had problems was when i had 22" wheels on, (all weather tyres) i was out testing them (for my own fun) not scientific tests, and on compact snow which was ice underneath didn't perform very well mind you it was quite a steep gradient, the laws of physics took over. So i went home swapped to my winter wheels 19's at that time, went back to the same hill and not a problem, straight up.
Never had scorpions or crapnals.
When out playing i always have the hill decent on just incase, very hilly where i go playing, no point in playing on flat level ground.

The problem with driving a 4x4 in the snow is that everyone else struggles and you get caught up in their tailbacks. Grrrr.

This evening I did tow a BMW 1-series up the hill at the end of the village , however, so I'm feeling suitably smug / heroic.

Driven the s/c for the first time in snow today, road tyres. No problem whatsoever, except stopping seems to get the abs going pretty quickly. Not eerie cued that with other cars before, and not driving like the clappers either

And just drove up a snowy track from the clay shooting ground - passed the spot where the Shogun is marooned after it refused to go any further!

The chap who runs the ground reckoned "you'll struggle with those tyres" (Vred Wintracs). It went up as happily as you like with just a couple of little lateral movements caused by the track. Easy-peezy!

Every time someone tells me that the Sport is rubbish in snow or off road or whatever I just have a little smile to myself. True, they may not be the most reliable vehicles in the world but when they're working they work well. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You must be gutted I was out playing in it last night till 10.0 o clock met up with a bunch of guys 6 of them in total, in old land rovers including 1 lightweight, we went up and down some very tricky country single track lanes that had drifts upto the top of my front bumper in places and all our motors performed very well, amazed infact what these motors can do all in all we had a great night out with no real incidents, a few off's but nothing the guys wasn't prepared for, they had all the tools nessessary, I had so much fun i went back out this afternoon My mpg has taken a big hit though, ive gone through a full tank of fuel in less than 220 miles Great fun though more snow forcast for sun/monday
