Land rover refused to replace an engine after off road damage...that didn't last long, new td5 fitted - owner pointed out why the were 4x4's Just on the earlier comment on the dangers of water...this was more of an upbeat post, dangers were mentioned, but a point extended/Normal/access flowing water v static water - the flowing water is not the depth, but the sail you have put into the wind and by wind I mean water!! Severe flooding around my way this morning. On my journey to the station, there was a long queue with cars turning round etc, due to an impassable section ahead as informed by some of the turning drivers .

Our floods have receded enough now you don't have to slow down to ford them

Its reasonably clear, but i appreciate as a summary not brilliantly. You can go in really deep water, eg a bomb hole, and as long as its static water (no flow) thats fine (snorkel etc you can go really deep...ive done it) all you might risk is getting water into something, so waterproofing is key. Ive had water at 1/2 my disco windscreen height for 4-6ft Change that to a river with a current - no matter if you have your car in access, extended, normal height the force from the flow is a really big deal - even below the max wading depth...it will want to push you - like a sail in the wind. The more a car is water tight - the more its boyant, the more boyant it is the more it looses traction in deeper water, the more it looses traction the more easily its pushed the more easily its pushed the more likely you are to be in trouble...thats before you get into the type of surface, mud/gravel/tarmac etc Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery Last edited by mse on Tue Nov 27 2012 11:15am.
