4 Wheel Alignment

Following this thread here, I had my car looked at yesterday by a company not far from me which use the Hunter 'Hawk Eye' alignment equipment which I had heard good things about. Cool

My RRS had never been quite right and was showing signs of drifting ever so slightly towards the right when the steering was held straight, I naturally assumed that it was a steering (possibly the mounting of the steering wheel itself) issue the needed correcting. They popped it up on the ramps and set to work, first the equipment was mounted on each of the wheels and the computer set to work to give a report of the current alignment. The live printout showed a slight case of 'toe out' on the rear near side wheel. This was the cause of my troubles as it was creating the drift and also explained why the car showed more dramatic signs as the speed increased.

15 minutes of minor adjustments and the system was reset and run again, this time showing that the car was perfectly aligned Bow down and a new report printed out Cool
They charged £52.99 (cheaper than the quote on the phone as they gave me a 10% 'forum' discount Thumbs Up ) which I thought was superb, especially given that the car now drives as straight as an arrow and tracks dead straight with no 'drift' when the wheel is held straight. On the drive home I couldn't believe how much better the car drove, it has made such a difference. Cool Bow down

Now, I know some will say that I should have taken the car back to LR, as the car is only 6 months old, but for me, taking it to a specialist garage really was worth the small amount to get the job corrected the first time on dedicated alignment machinery specifically designed to do the job.

For those that are having similar issues, I really can recommend getting the car looked at on one of these machines at your local Hunter approved alignment centre. Thumbs Up

The garage in question was called Skid Marques in Brentwood and the guys there were superb, well worth seeing them if they are local to you Thumbs Up

Apparently Ady, it has to be a hefty whack to knock out the tracking on these (due to their off road ability), guy recons that it left the factory that way, although didn't tell Mrs BC that Whistle

If they don't sort yours at the dealer, I'd ask the to pay for a trip to a Hunter Hawk Eye place, could be the way to resolve it Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks for that post BC. LR told me that some 'special ' bit of kit is needed to check the alignment . Mine cost £200 last time.
You've put paid to that myth. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I know they didn't rest my ECU Jules and to be honest I've not heard of that before. Confused
I've had no issues.
They did mess around with the air suspension a lot before taking the measurements, the guy says they have to make 100% sure the car is level before taking any readings. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Ahh that would make some sense. I have checked and they are the only ones in the area with the Hawk system. Its strange that when it went in for warranty work New suspension compressor and pipe work they didnt pick the tyres up. Strange and #exspensive

I don't think dealerships are too keen on alignment issues Confused . No disrespect to a LR dealership, but I'd rather take it to a specialist wheel alignment place anyway Thumbs Up
Hope you get it all sorted. The printout you get before/after shows you the state of things too so you can see where the adjustment is needed and corrected. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Wow, £53 does sound like fantastic value.

My RRS definately needs this doing, as I have to hold the steering wheel slightly off centre in order to proceed dead ahead, and whilst it's still under warranty, I too would question the main dealers ability to do this job with satisfactory accuracy.

Do I try them, or do I go straight for a specialist at my cost?, hmm... 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG

Yup, sounds like they won't be in business long with that sort of attitude.
