Usb Music driving me nuts...

Hi all,

I'm a new happy MY13 RRS owner since just over a month now. I love everything about the car except the seemingly moronic music interface....

After trying bluetooth Audio from my Galaxy S3 and realising with bluetooth all I get is forward stop and back functionality, I decided this was not OK for me, so decided USB was the way to go...

1. I read up on the manual, formatted my stick to FAT32, regrettfully converted my music from FLAC to ALAC (the manual says ALAC and WMV are OK) and copied it onto my USB stick, put in in the car and got "device error". Tried a seond stick in case it was down to compatibility issues and same thing. OK attempt 2.

2. Put one song on usb stick in ALAC - no go same error
3. Renamed above song to song.m4a (just to make sure there are no special characters) - still no go
3. Put one song in mp3 on stick OK - yeah! But I don't want lossy music. Sad
4. Converted song to wmv - Get device error again... arghhhh
5. Decided to reencode library in 320K Mp3 although I don't like the idea, and I now get my music on the screen, can browse/etc... / folders are respected. However - the songs and folder names are all in the wrong order.
6. Rename all songs to be 01- songname.mp3 based on metadata to trick it into reading the songs in order, however it still randomly chooses the order it wishes to display the songs (not alphabetical or based on my numbers)

Has anyone got any idea how to change the order this thing plays the songs? I've been through every single menu but can't find a sort option anywhere... Alternatively (and even better) has anyone managed to make their headunit read lossless audio?

Oh, and don't ask why I don't use an iPod - you don't even want to go there Wink

Thanks in advance for any help Smile
Richard

Are you using a Mac by any chance Richard?

I had a problem the other day when not all the tracks would play, but were recognised as being present. Apparently macs add small bits of data to files sometimes adding '_.' to the beginning of the track title and they won't play on the RR system. Easily solvable by using software to clean up drive/stick.

Maybe this will help further

Hi and thanks for the answers!

Have tried 1GB, 4GB and 16GB...

It's a PC - have also checked for hidden files /etc, but no luck there!

Thanks for the link - I'd already read that bit it doesn't seem to apply in my case.

I can live with the MP3s, but I'd just like it to play them in order (listening to a live concert in random order is bizarre to say the least Wink

Thanks again
Richard

16gb mp3 and a few other formats via USB and its perfect. No special order just as they come and are added (properly by album) on the 60GB of our central song library

Get a MAC or Itunes near music and i can see why its not working.

But there shouldnt be a trick, convert any mp4's etc to mp3 .wma etc and you will be fine Mike

Then it converts the files to analog and sounds crap!

My problem is that if im listening to a song and turn off the car, when I restart the car the song skips to the next song when i was half way through the previous song.

not too bad when its just a radio version, but when listening to a live mix thats 1-2 hours long its a pain in the ass!!

Any ideas what it could be??
