Could be the wrong type of grass or the wrong type of mud, similar to Britsh Rail with the wrong type of snow. Whistle In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

First time we had snow after I bought my RRS, I took it out for a play. Sat on a reasonably steep hill with about 2 inches of semi-compacted snow over tarmac. Set to "grass, snow and gravel" and DSC was on all the time. Winter tyres were fitted.

1. Selected low range, first gear. Give a boot full and sit there going nowhere with all four wheels spinning and the DSC light flashing occasionally. SWMBO said "I'll laugh so hard if you get this thing stuck!"

2. Selected high range, third gear. Gentle bit of throttle and pulls away as easily as you like. I smiled at SWMBO...

Tyres are important, but so is the way you drive the thing... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

All of the above is what i was saying...its equally not always the terrain response setting that you think. DSC might need to be deactivated (lots of occasions) and all about driving style.

I took a disco on AT's further than defenders went on Muds - but its so many factors of equipment, power, gear, Terrain response, lines etc Mike

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Off Topic Off Topic

I've owned and offroaded in standard trim a Disco1, Disco2, Freelander1, TD6 FFRR, TDv6 RRS, TDv8 RRS, TDv8 FFRR and a TDi300 (no electronics what so ever)Defender 90 and it is still the best offroad Land Rover there is and it has nothing to do with clever toys - it is NARROW, it can go places where the others would get their pretty sides ripped off. I ran my Tdv8RRS and TDv8 FFRR with MTR's off road and they were both brilliant but let down by their width and I had to make do with missing out heavily wooded sections of the Argyll Forest that I could have easily done in my 90. I've had my Evoque offroad on it's 20" 100% road biased tyres and the TR coped extremely well, but I did have to use Freelander rut straddling technics to avoid ripping off its front and rear spoilers, it is brilliant in sand and mud on road tyres as it is so much lighter than all my previous LRs.
The most impressive had to be the TDv8 RRS with its clever dislocating antiroll bars though, that gave it a few extra cms of ability over the D3-D4/FFRR's that didn't have the same system 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I would give you the width point and probably the weight point.

Short and Long Wheel base has always been a discussion point sometimes you need longer and sometimes shorter - my disco has never not gone where the defenders have and the d1 whilst wider that the defender (90/110) its always squeezed through the same gaps...but you are right with the later much wider vehicles, this is an issue (unless you like scratches - which i dont!). D1's D2's RRC were all reasonably tough and didnt have much (ok the lover valances in later models - ignore the end caps because defenders loose those!) to rip off

One thing with the freelander 1, that was really good was the plastic rough bumpers - they could take a smack or two

Like you Ive off roaded the entire range, difficult to get into which is over all best unless you attach similar courses - but ill stick with the Sport across the lot for the reasons i said.

Another issue with some of the new ones - is they get far etc etc...but rescuing them is a Censored .

D3's i remember a weekend of dragging D3's down rutted tracks with suspension failures or just stuck. Its a massive weight when bogged in!!

Like you say the freelander and the evoke score because they arent as heavy.

Modern still wins in my opinion Mike

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Saw one of these yesterday afternoon travelling northbound on the A1 in Hertfordshire.
It was a light metallic blue colour but didn't have any badges on it.

Looked quite nice, a little odd with the front and back lights but something that people will get used to the more they see on the road.

One thing tho, it didn't look rugged, it was more like a 'pretty boy', not for me.
