Stick you sport in a muddy football field with new road tyres see what you look like then, up to you sills in crap and no way out, before the usual babble on about user error, I went through the right proceedure ( although if you need a training course and a manual then it's no bloody good anyway)

Both my 20's standard have been fine in the fields...wet grass muddy...it's about the max I would personally take the sport in anyway, remember they are about 80/20 road bias but that doesn't hugely hamper them until they fall off the cliff just like the point at's fail and you need full muds.

It's not the size as much as the tyres and there are more 19's at's, MUDs and more off road biased tyres for 19 rims 20 inch rims can also pinch the tyre sidewall a little more on rocky terrain etc that 19's...but obviously that's all to do with sidewall profile Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery |

As mse said, 19inch wheels tend to be supplied with mud and snow tyres, whereas 20s are mainly road based patterns, saying that, I park a fair bit in fields when spectating at rallys and when the snow was bad 2 years ago, mine manages brilliantly on 20s, as long as you select the right setting and don't give it gas and spin the wheels u won't look like a t tt Cheers Dave MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps! If it looks like the concept vehicle and has the same sort of electronics and clever systems / suspension as the D4/RRS/FFRR then it won't be better as a farm vehicle. The Defender needs to be tough, reliable, easy/cheap to fix, have an interior that can take having sheep/sheep thrown at it etc. Having toys and a nice design and sparkly interior is not what the Defender needs. If they just round the corners, stick a modern efficient engine in and improve things like door sealing etc. then that will be an improvement. If they turn it into a £35k lifestyle choice then it'll sell well but won't be the Defender that traditional Defender/Series owners need. I hope they don't fall in to this trap but I fear they will. LR is losing touch with its roots. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Apart from the fact land rover have stated very clearly that the defender will have numerous washout interior models just as they are now. Current defenders have electronics as for recent years...infact the other makes that farmers buy (because the are cheap) have more electronics and are often more expensive to repair if they break out of warrant...but equally have all the toys anyway...actually the numbers of farmers with mitsushitties or disco 3/4 is increasing...so I don't honk technology is the issue or a problem or a bad thing I would agree most want it to be cheap...but that isn't wholesale the case now. Where the others score and defender doesn't is the none farmer/and us market where toys are needed and the new concept meets that. Incidentally...most tractors make our range rovers look like they are from the dark ages!!!! Serious technology on board and have for years, not just cleaver suspension, but self drive, navigation, measuring, control systems, infotainment you name it. The world moves on! Is it the angle of the photo or is there a huge rear overhang? Given the short front overhang it looks as if the body has been plonked on its wheels a bit too far back.

i can see both your points, but the one thing a defender needs is to be worked on "in the field", landrovers are supposed to be modular and sorted by someone with a bit of mechanical knowlage, loads of electronics are no use when you are broken down in the middle of the khalahari! maybe the next generation will be able to download fixes from satalite cheers dave MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps! OT - rrsboy, so if faced with a situation of a wet field, I would select the appropriate mode'grass, gravel & snow' then disengage the DSC, correct ? ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

you might get away with the normal terrain setting, depending on how wet it was (the setting damps the throttle mainly)
