but arguably our cars are viewed by many as Chelsea tractors that have no off-road ability (that is even the opinion of a lot of Defender/Disco owners) - except I know first hand that they fancy box of electronics means we can keep up with both when it comes to the muddy stuff! ============ 2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa 2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable ============ 2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8! |

^^^ I've not taken mine (or likely ever to like you rrsboy ) 'off road' but I was informed by the guys on the LRE day that the RRS will easily out perform a Defender/Freelander and was their preferred choice over a Disco too.

thats nothing to be ashamed about! in two years mine has been of road twice, but it is more the wet weather handling (and snow/ice) that has made me stay with 4 wheel drive cars/suvs for the last 20 years!! cheers dave MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps! That's what I was also told, however what they fail to point out is that the approach and departure angles and underbody clearance of the RRS aren't quite in the same league as that of the defender. Electronics can indeed help, however you can't defy the laws of physics when faced with a deep gulley to cross or a steep incline to climb. The other thing I recall is that electronics can get in the way, when climbing a slippery hill, disabling DSC is recommended otherwise you could find yourself short of power half way up should the back end decide to go a little sideways. Rubbish! the new defender will be far better than the outgoing defender and whilst there could also be a more simple version - its a brilliant improvement As for the range rover - you would be surprised how many do see dirty/mud...but more just see the road Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery |

My first impressions of the full fat is that it is moving away from the classic shape. I wouldn't change the Sport and the old full fat doesn't fit in the garage. The new one might. I do like some of the features though so perhaps these will filter down to the new RRS. Love the electrically deployable tow hitch and the electrically operated twin tailgate. It does look like you have to open the hatch to use the drop down lower part but that has to be better than the current one piece.

I've taken mine off road 3 times - not anything lightening or anything the rivals my disco or defender sessions for proper off roading...i've also taken other sports and all the product line properly off road and from my experience the Sport is certainly more capable than the Defender and Freelander - those users don't like it, but its the truth...add in its on road capability then i would argue its more capable than all possibly bar the outgoing full fat which it would be equal to if not a little better. to some extent before you get to tyres. That said - i once took a freelander when i was building an off road course and the disco 1 and 2 and defender couldnt get where the F2 could...some of all of this is also driving and the specific conditions...but never underestimate the out of the box LR capability and never think they dont maintain and improve that - its part of the core value.
