problems, regarding RRS brakes and handbrake

3:30am and travelling to Bristol Airport this morning and my handbrake suddenly applied ! Felt like a bumpy road at first, the concrete type, lots of vibrating. Then got worse and could feel it braking. Felt a bit like a flat tyre. then could smell the brake pads, so stopped. 2 Hours later, AA man says drive around and I'll take a before and after temperature reading on pads/discs - no change in temp. Probably a 'one off' he said, so continued to drive home. 2 Miles down M4 and same happened again, this time AA recovery had to carry me home. AA man said since I've just had new discs/pads fitted all round, the garage hasn't reset the electronic handbrake via computer. Is this something that needs doing and how does it work if so. Want to know the ins and outs before confronting the garage ! Cheers  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

The LR font of all knowledge says that the back brakes have to be backed off by 5 clicks to give the correct slack in the cable.Which is what the garages dooooo becuase thats what it says so must be right!.But when you speak to a seasoned LR mechanic ( not a YTS trainee that most use) they reckon its around 10 clicks (not in the book) otherwise Big Cry So in short if a LR garage they should know better,if an after market garage theyve done whats been said in the book. Thumbs Up
Other than that yes the system has to be reset,it happens so often with mine I brought a reset tool
Sealey VS8624 Service Indicator & Epb Reset Tool - Land Rover, Range Rover
Features:
■Essential tool for extinguishing service indicator and resetting Electronic Parking Brake on Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles.
■Simple push-button operation allows EPB cable to be released and re-attached and, in the event that the emergency hand brake has been activated, allows the user to reset the system.
■Clears codes that may have been generated as a result of the emergency cable being pulled.
■It also allows the EPB to be un-jammed when the vehicle has entered a state of brake screech when applying the parking brake, the rear brakes squeak or rub when the vehicle is moving or there is evidence of shoe-drag.
■Powered by connection to the vehicle.
If its not then its your quality peice of EPC thats up the swanny.
If all else fails disconnect the thing!

mine wasn't that bad, slight vibrations, a little slowing down, felt a bit like a puncture, but just half down, not flat - then the smell ! Hoping its adjustment after pads/discs fitted as marco247 stated  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

it should be backed off 8 clicks or 1 complete revolution of the knurled adjuster.

Try this, contains all you need to know.

i followed that advice when i changed the pads, you only need to back off the adjusters if changing the disc and or parking break shoes, as i did neither, just changed the pads, im ok Cool .
By the way, i would be interested to know what size of shoes the EPB system uses, cos reading that guide, id say the entire system looks like it is from a rover 214 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

When your changing the pads (so have the wheels off) you should always tighten up and then adjust the epb shoes. If it goes out of adjustment and starts screaming, you have every possibility to knacker it. Bodsys Brake Bible

i understand what you are saying, but as you never go anywhere near the EPB, if your only changing the pads, then why adjust them Question 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
