England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Luxury Santorini Black
Cost of side steps fitted

I have just brought a new sdv6 hse luxury from a main dealer. They are quoting me £865 for side steps fitted.

And also £210 for mudflats front and rear.

I am not interested in fitting myself but wondered if this is over the top. I have read some posts on other members getting them fitted without labour costs. Note I have not picked up the car yet and hope to next week.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Personally I think £800+ for steps is an absolute joke Shocked
You could always source some identical non OEM oes and get them to fit.
At the very least they shouldn't be charging you labour on accessories for a new car, they should be either at cost, or retail less a decent discount.
I'd push back on them ans squeeze a little bit of a discount out Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks for your input. That's what I thought. I will be going back to them tomorrow and seeing what they will discount.

IIRC, Book time for fitting used to be 1.5 hours. Hardest part is cutting holes in the cill plastic trims; garage should manage it within an hour. If you can use a Stanley knife & a small spanner, buy a set from Slimer and fit them yourself for about 1/4 of what you've been quoted.

Link to D3/4 side steps, but he has supplied RRS in the past

Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

Chris,

Have a look on the Bay of E and you'll find some good quality after market sidesteps and mupflaps. Some of the aftermarket sidesteps even come with the precut plastic cill trims Wink

Do a search here and there are many links given.

Then take to a local garage to fix if you don't want to do it yourself. I'm currently getting both fixed once done I'll take some photos and post and give you details via PM if you want.

Regards

Guy

P.S. I'm in Oman however shipped the parts from the UK. 2006 RRS S/C CONSTANTLY under modification...

Considering what you've spent on the new car they should be giving them to you for free. Ripon landrover supplied and fitted mine for free as they said they wouldn't let something like steps be a deal breaker Thumbs Up

I had the same fitted to my new HSE before I collected the car as if they are fitted before it is PDI'd, they are covered by your 3 year LR warranty.
You do need to haggle though, I got a much better price from my dealer as I pointed out I was spending a huge lump of cash on the RRS itself and to be fair, they did a good deal for me. One way is to get a discount for the items from the parts department at your dealer as you are a forum member and then put pressure on them to fit them for free through the sales guy you are dealing with.
Good luck Thumbs Up

Actually any genuine part fitted up to 2 weeks (it might be a month) after PDI by the supplying or other dealer is covered by the original warranty Thumbs Up

£80 - 110 per hour labour, plus the cost of the steps. £800 just seems a lot

Mud flaps are about £50 front and back - about 30 minutes max fitting so £100+Vat + £60 fitting meaning the dealer are taking an additional £50 from you on mud flaps Mike

Up to 1 month after according to the sign in my local LR dealer today (and it gives 3 year's coverage) Thumbs Up

Have to say to the OP: having bought a new car I'd be looking for a bit of "thanks for your business" goodwill on something like this. But then, we are talking LR dealers and lots seem to be clueless about this sort of thing! Rolling Eyes 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks everyone for your help.. As my first post I have been really I pleased to see so many helpful comments within 24 hours. What a great forum

Spoke to dealer today and asked them if they would discount the quoted price. No response yet. Although I am finding I am doing all the chasing at the moment.

I am still waiting to find out when the car will reach the dealer. Apparently the car has been sitting at land rover for the last week and they still don't know when it will delivered!

You would think that they would be keener to take my £56k ASAP.

Any comments on key things I should be looking out for when I collect the car would be welcomed. Been a jaguar and bmw man previously so new to the land rover experience. Although appreciate so things will be familiar.

Chris

If the vehicle is in the pound and they cant get it on a slot in 5 days (which is the delivery period from the store around here) then my dealer just sends a trailer to pick it up.

took 3 days to get it from the store to the dealer after it had been there for about 3 days Mike
