United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
LR warranty

Do LR offer payment plans for their extended warranty or payment in full upfront? Eg can you break the payments over 12 months?

What can I expect to pay for an extended warranty for a LR warranty on my Aug 2009 TDV8 with 30k full service history? RR Sport TDV8 09 Santorini Black with all the trimmings

Yes there is an option to pay 10 interest-free monthly installments for 12 months cover. Price for the year is £865 for "Approved" warranty without LR Assistance or £1015 with LR Assistance. "Select" (lesser level of cover) is between £650 and £700 without Assistance. Add £150 for Assistance similar to "Approved".

The price is the same regardless of service history. Approved is for cars up to 5 years old or 75k miles. Select for 5-10 years old or 100k miles.

Recently bought for my Jul 2009 RRS. Was informed the price was going to go up by £150 from 1st Aug but not sure how accurate that is.

Thanks for the info.

Does the dealership need to see the car before I can take extended warranty out or can I call them to arrange?

Is the price the same across all dealerships or can it differ? RR Sport TDV8 09 Santorini Black with all the trimmings

Same price across all dealerships. You don't have to buy from the dealer. Can buy direct from LR over the phone or online. The dealer might not be able to provide the installments option but only accept lump sum payment - check with them.

If there is current LR warranty then no inspection required and you should be able to buy from the dealer over the phone too. If there isn't, they will need to inspect the car at your expense (£240 + VAT but not sure if it's dealer-specific).

Btw there are comprehensive warranties available other than LR too e.g. Warranty Direct and Warranty Wise. Some people have been very happy with them, others not so much. Mixed reviews for LR warranty too. Search the forum, there are plenty of threads on that topic.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you, just pointing out what's available in case you weren't aware.

I will be honest I have had 3 RRS - all from same dealer all second hand and - touch huge chunk of wood - have never really had anything that would have been covered by a warranty, although I have had a dealer warranty on them all, sadly most of my cost has been on wear & tear items ie pads/discs, rubber bushes and general servicing.

But may be I have been the lucky one Thumbs Up Paul

Sorted my extended warranty out and went with Land Rover Approved without assistance as I have breakdown cover through my insurance company.

The price has gone up as of today Sad to £945 instead of £865 which it would of cost yesterday. Tried squeezing the dealership and HQ to let me have it at yesterday's price but they wouldn't budge. The only way they would have let me do it for cheaper would of been if I had the letter for the extended renewal quoting the old price. I didn't have it so no joy.

In between renewing, I contacted Warrenty Direct for a quote, after a some negotiation they would give me what they claim is comparable cover 'Prestige Cover' and includes 'wear and tear' 13 months for £620.00. A lot cheaper than LR but you had a £50 per claim premium. I was put off by the risk of them not covering all parts and labour costs as well as the risk of having to settle bills myself then they re-imburse.

Anyway, safer to have the warranty cover than not!

Thanks for the help Thumbs Up RR Sport TDV8 09 Santorini Black with all the trimmings

@pjb

I'm on my first RRS and so far have had over £2k of work done in the first year of ownership. As you might imagine, I've taken the opportunity of extending the LR warranty for another 12 months... Thumbs Up

The thing about warranties is that it's a game of risk - or rather risk aversion. You might well be lucky and have a trouble free LR experience and then wonder "why bother with a warranty as it's a waste of money". Or, like many, you'll hit problems and think "the warranty is great value and I'm very glad I've got it".

If you think that repairs will be less, averaged per year, than the cost of a warranty then you'll keep the money in your pocket. If, however, you think that repairs will, averaged per year, exceed the warranty then you'd be daft to not buy the cover.

If I don't have problems for the next two years then I reckon I'm still no worse off buying the warranty (the first year came with the vehicle) as it will have cost <2k>£2k of repairs over 3 years.

I'm betting that I'll be claiming on the warranty again during the next year of ownership though... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

^^ + 1

I have hardly had any serious problems during my few months of ownership but still didn't feel brave enough to keep a car like RRS without any warranty. It can be too expensive if/when things go wrong.

The way I see it: if nothing happens over the next 12 months, I won't regret spending money on the warranty as much as I would regret spending potentially a lot more on repairs as a result of not having a warranty. Peace of mind, that most failures will be covered, is an added extra.

After getting messed about by LRA warrantys and the overall rudeness of LR staff I have ditched the approved warranty and gone for a warranty works deal. 3 years cover all mechanics and electrical ( inc tv sat Nav air con fridge I double checked this) no excess £5000 per claim no limit to amount of claims £100 ph main dealer labour for £1300. I have used them b4 and didn't have any problems they pay up so you don't have to pay then claim back so I thought it was a good deal Thumbs Up S, grey, all black int, s,steps, window tints, fridge, ff tv x 3.

Having only had My RRS for a few weeks it still had approved on it till September but they made it so difficult to transfer the warranty as the chap I bought it from had not filled it out. They refused to speak to me as was in his name so rang local dealer who first hung up on me Rolling Eyes so rang back and first said no record of it then they did but would not tell me anything. So I then asked if once I do get it transferred are my issues ( fridge and cd not working) covered. Again refused to tell me but did say I could take it in so they could charge me to find the faults. So I said I'm going to renew it in September where I was told they would check the car first at a cost then find the faults that I had told them but the new warranty would not cover them as its a current fault. So they wanted to charge me for the lot and the only time this woman was all most happy was when I said I was going to spend more on a new warranty. In the end I gave up on trying to transfer the warranty as I would have also had to pay the last 2 months of it thanked the woman for all her help and went elsewhere with my money Thumbs Up S, grey, all black int, s,steps, window tints, fridge, ff tv x 3.
