Update on my range rover sport is the low power mode is on again whilst driving and heated seats not warming all signs of the alternator failing and the dealer has collected it again and finally agreed to replacing the alternator,. See how it goes when I pick it up!
My courtesy car is a banana yellow Citroen C2 lol but the kids love it lol

£763 was what I was quoted for an alternator and fitting from land rover.
I have it booked in on Friday for a health check (30 point) and made an appointment to discuss warranties.
Providing its back in time with its new alternator.
I'll keep everyone posted and hope the symptoms I've been having help others diagnose similar problems Thumbs Up

Which dealer is doing the work? i'm very surprised they didn't pick up on the alternator in the first place, not sure what the 30 point check consists of but if they didn't notice a burn't out alternator i'd be reluctant to let them loose with my motor Shocked Did you buy your motor private?

Had a new alternator supplied and fitted by the dealer not costing me a penny due to only owning the car for 2 weeks and now it is working perfect. Nice and toasty from the heated seats, fridge working and low power mode is now a thing of the past and I can finally start to enjoy my Sport. Thumbs Up

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Java Black

Just had the same problem with my RRS HST 08 70k. Only had it 4 weeks and the battery warning light came on. My local mechanic popped the bonnet, took one sniff and said my alternator was fried which was a very common problem, and expect to change every 2-3 years. Charged me £400 for a new alternator and fitting - job done.

I think I'll invest in some warranty. Whistle

You got to have mechanical warranty on these sports, bought mine 3 months approx. took out mechanical warranty at £600 or $1200 for 2 years and what a god send, broke down after the first week and got a bill for £3000 allsorts up with it, warranty guys paid 90% of this, and now this week broke down again(low pressure fuel pump in tank faulty) have one on order from UK to NZ and again this is covered under the mechanical warranty approx £700-£800 to fix, Money well spent and still over 20 months left on it,
