2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

TDv8 Spec in FFRR

Land Rover Owner International has the 1st road test of the TDv8 FFRR in the June edition.
The first comment that I noticed...................."with this power and torque it blows the RR S/C into the weeds" - what hope an RRS S/C then? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I can see the fact it'll pull a house over a lot easier than the SC - but is it actually quicker/faster? The engine's not as powerful at the end of the day and it's not torque that gets you away from the lights quickly...

OK reading on a bit.....................
Top Speed is limited in the FFRR TDv8 to 124mph
Ouput is 272bhp on 472lb-ft torque (50 more than the S/C FFRR)
0-60 is 8secs
It has 3630cc capacity, 32 valves, twin turbos, 90 degree V (TDv6 is 60 degrees so it must be a totally new engine not a delevopement of TDv6!) Twin camshafts and is rated as one of the worlds quiestest and smoothest diesels.

Economy in the FFRR is 25.1 mpg and it has Terrain Response, and LROI reckon it will be the biggest selling RR by far....................

Actually, it is

In reality, BHP doesn't really exist, it is simply a multiplication of torque x rpm. You would typically be using the lower rev range when pulling away, therefore the rpm multiplier wouldn't produce the high BHP figures, but you could still have high torque. If you look at a BHP & torque curves for the same engine, you wil see that while ever there is torque you will get increasing power as the revs rise. Once torque starts to drop off, the power it will follow shortly after.
A diesel will invariably produce lower BHP figures than a "comparable" petrol, simply because it produces the torque at lower revs and therefore, a lower multiplication factor.

The figures look good. Given the spec, LR will need to position it well to not kill SC sales....

So in the real world it will do 18 mpg, cost as much as a V8 petrol and go as well as a chipped V6.

Save your money. !st Edition RRS S/C, Black on Black.

One thing it doesn't say is how low down it reaches the maximum torque - it will probably pretty low like it is in all LR diesels to help the offroad-ablity. There is also no mention of Dynamic pack being fitted to the FFRR.
The article says that the same engine will be going into the Jaguar XJ........... less weight, lower,sleeker................... that will be some car! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Given the success that BMW have had in putting their 3.0d twin-turbo unit into a number of their cars, I'd say it's open season for the performance diesel to be appearing in new models across the industry. Now if only the fuel was the same price as petrol (or LPG would be better!)
