United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Trade in price against a 2011 D4

Has the value of RRS really fallen that much.
Today I was at a Main Dealer in London and whilst there, had my car appraised to see how much it was worth against a 2011 D4 HSE priced at £40,000.

Ours is a mint condition June 2010 RRS TDV8 in Santorini Black with Ivory leather and privacy glass. It has done 21,000 miles and had its 2 year main dealer service only last week.

The salesman later quoted me £32,000 against the D4. I was a bit taken aback at this low price as they have a not so good 59 plate TDV6 with more miles on at £39,000.

The salesman tried to justify the low price by saying that it could possibly need £1,500 spent on it before they could retail it. This was for a thorough check over etc. I had to laugh at this as the same garage serviced the car 7 days ago!!!!

Apparently £32k is the Cap trade price.
Overall, I was looking in the region of about 7-8,000 to change to a year newer D4.

This helped to make my mind up to stick with the better car so I pulled up my trousers and left. Thumbs Up

£32k for a 2010 TDV8 with 21k on the clock! They must be joking!

£1500 to get it ready for retail seems a bit steep too ... considering £200 with a smart repairer will get it to tip top shape.

Your making the right choice sticking with it IMO Thumbs Up

Sad thing is that the car is in mint condition, there are no dings dents or anything. The money was to give it a thorough 80 point check over.
The car still has 12 months manufacturers warranty remaining.

Oh well, off to Denmark in the morning to stretch its legs and enjoy.

Speaking with a well know dealer £1500 was quoted too

Service, cleaning, fixing odds and ends for the new purchasers deal, adding extended warranty all adds up

Hi Nick,
Yes it does all add up. Mine was serviced last week and still has the manufacturers warranty.

I'm sure that X5PEA valued mine through Cap a couple of weeks ago for a lot more than that. Looking around at dealers, similar cars start at around £39,000 up to well over £40,000.

Not a problem though as I'm keeping mine but just not impressed by the dealer.

if you got lucky you'd get £39k for it privately. £34k seems more realistic as a trade-in.

Thumbs Up ============

2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable
============
2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

Think I'm going to wait a year then pick up a bargain, if that's the price for a newer shape model, then the 2013 shape will definitely reduce these further. Every cloud I suppose! Sorry Tonyrec.

I still believe that the prices will hold. I dont know anyone that has picked up a similar car to mine for less than 36k.

If I was to sell mine privately and buy say a D4, i dont think personally that i would have to pay anything extra. The RRS definately holds its money better than a D4 in my experience. Thats not to say that the D4 is an inferior car, in many ways its just as good, its only designed for different people.

Mine is staying in my garage, after my effortless journey to Denmark, nothing comes close as a replacement in my book. Thumbs Up

cap clean is 36700 , retail is 39250.... id go back and hit the guy with the cap book ... w*nker

1500 is a fir price for prep by the time they top up the warranty and adhere to LR standards of forecourt cars.
1500 don't go far , remember service charge sale the retail price its not free Laughing

You think that's bad ?
A Friend bought a brand new RR Evoque just a few months ago.. It is a fully loaded one with just about every conceivable extra !
He like many RRE Owners cannot come to grips with the non existent rear visibility and lack of rear space behind the seats...
Supplying Dealer offered 28K... Yes You did read that right.. 28K...... Another dealer who has apparently a customer in mind made a maximum bid of 32K...

Another reason not to fall victim to buying new in the belief you're getting something special.
Maybe what you're really doing is chucking 10k away the moment you drive off.

Im happy picking a second hand bargain up Smile

In todays market I firmly believe in tracking down that private sale and haggling hard !!
I also firmly believe the days of changing cars 3 or 4 times a year are gone unless very deep pockets are available.

I used to swap cars on a whim and have great fun doing it but now think long and hard about whether a vehicle is suitable and if I will be happy with it for at least two years.. Its just to expensive to keep swapping now !!

I saw a topic on here where a Chap bought a car (RRS) and wanted to sell it very soon after buying for a grand less than paid at the Dealer..... That is very unlikely as the dealer would have had a huge profit in the car and that is usually lost......

Problem is is that very few sell privately these days !! Do a search on Autotrader and see how many cars are being sold for say the RRS ?? It will reveal very few indeed.. So it seems that We are largely in the hands of the dealers who want these very large profit margins,.................

I have sold privately in the past but never had any success on autotrader - just get pestered by people selling advertising Evil or Very Mad

Sold a mondeo at the front of my house once and a disco metropolis and fl2 gs through eBay Thumbs Up

Trying to sell a mini right now and get the impression nobody buying private at the moment Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Maybe the lack of success in sales on autotrader is the misconception that the public will rip you off and dealers won't. The way I see it dishonest people can take many forms, just because you work for a main dealer doesn't mean you're not going to rip me off.

With main dealers all I can say is 'at least Dick Turpin wore a mask'.
