Trip to Denmark

Only a few more days to go before we set off on a trip to Denmark. This is the first time that we have done the trip in the RRS TDV8 and I'm really looking forward to it.
We are taking the Eurostar over to Calais and then we turn left, set the cruise control and enjoy the scenery of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany go flying by before we take the short 30 minute ferry trip from Puttgarden across into Denmark. Door to door is about 14 hours.

The total mileage to our destination from home will be approx 850 miles so we anticipate doing about 2,300 miles in total.

What do you think that our average fuel consumption will be for the journey?

It depence, how fast you are driving on the german motorways Laughing
On a few parts of the motorways there is no limit, so you can see how fast your RSS could go ! And by 180 or 200 km /h, it cost you a few liters more.

Why aren't you going from Harwich to Esbjerg? Lovely trip, leave Harwich about 6pm, have dinner and a few drinks on the ferry, have a good sleep in your cabin, wake up, enjoy a large breakfast, laze around on deck as you approach Denmark, enjoying the seals playing as you get closer to Esbjerg, jump in car and drive off around noon.

Piece of p!ss.

Unless it is really rough seas of course, then it is feckin awful.

Where are you going in Denmark? I used to live there and we have tried to go back every year on holiday since we left, it is a lovely part of the world to visit (and live). Disco 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 HSE,Santorini Black and Ebony, Privacy, Grand Black lacquer, 20" 5 spoke alloys, tow bar

Hi Andy,
I prefer to drive but we have taken the ferry a few times. We also take our two dogs and it's much better to stop and let them stretch their legs.
We are going to a place called Hornbeak (top of Zealand) to stay in the families summerhouse, it's lovely and peaceful!
A couple of years ago we bought a house in Hellerup which is about 3km north of Copenhagen and I was commuting to London from Tuesday to Friday. It worked well but a few months ago we came back and funny enough sold our house last week.

My other half is Danish and I do like Denmark even though cars are sooooo expensive!

On this trip however, I'm driving over next Wednesday with the family and unfortunately I'm flying back a few days later on the Sunday as due to the Olympics all of our leave has been cancelled. The family though are staying over there for nearly 3 weeks before my other half drives back.

I don't know that area around Hornbaek, I lived in Ebeltoft in Jutland and whilst I used to travel to Zealand on a regular basis (pretty much every other week), I was usually driving from Sjaellands Odde to Copenhagen or on my way to Sweden.

I love the whole summer house concept, it is such a relaxing way to holiday and we rent one each year, usually for a week although last year we had a few days around Hvide Sande on the West Coast and then over the Ebeltoft in a summer house for a couple of weeks. Packed up the Range Rover, stuck a roofbox on, plus 3 bikes on the roof - what a car for that journey!

Range Rovers look like alien vehicles over there don't they, with 180% registration tax, you don't see many! When we lived there I had a company car (Passat estate) and we took my wife's Golf GTI over with us, although we had to write to the police to ask for permission to bring it on a temporary basis and not pay the registration tax. They got a bit shirty when we stayed on after the first year, but let us off ... phew. It was only just over a year old, but it would have been cheaper to push it into the sea than pay the tax! Disco 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 HSE,Santorini Black and Ebony, Privacy, Grand Black lacquer, 20" 5 spoke alloys, tow bar

Driving to France? Take a breathalyser

New rules from July 1 mean anyone driving in France must keep an unused breathalyser with an NF logo in the car. If you’re caught without one, you’ll be cautioned. After November 1, you’ll get an €11 (£9 approx) fine. You’ll also need a warning triangle and a reflective jacket – usually included if you hire a car.

Thumbs Up
Why arn't our laws so strict Question Laughing

Outstanding fuel consumption!

Well, after nearly 15 hours travelling we have at our summerhouse north of Copenhagen.
The car went like a dream, effortless and super smooth even though it was fully loaded. I set off cruising around the 80mph indicated mark and then whilst travelling through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany the speed did 'creep' up a little and this included a quick blast on the german unrestricted motorway.

After nearly 900 miles, the fuel consumption worked out at 29.6 mpg. If anyone had told that a TDV8 would/could return this then quite frankly i would not have believed them. Previously on trips up to the Lakes, the most we have managed was 25-26.

The car is running like a dream after having just been serviced but im still in a state of shock!

Im looking forward to working out the final mpg upon the cars return to the UK in a couple of weeks.............. Thumbs Up
