5000km trip planned - update, trip now complete

As many have provided valuable input thought to post an update on my trip in case anyone would ever consider a drive down to Croatia

Day 1 - we left Prague for Croatia via Brno, Vienna, Graz, Maribor, Zagreb to a little coast side town called Senj. Along the road we got caught by a traffic jam due to accident in Slovenia. Thanks to friendly locals we by passed the jam using the capability of the RRS on mild side tracks. Second hold back that we couldn't avoid was on the Slovenian/Croatian border, which cost us nearly 2 hours. After just over 700 km we arrived to Senj at around 9pm ready for a evening walk and dinner. Spent the first might on the coast side camp (or car park for a better word) awaken by the dog at 5am just perfect timing for sun rise and breakfast at a local caffe. Can you imagine it was open at 6am?

Day 2 - we followed the coastal road (# Cool that copies the coast of Croatia all the way from the north to the south, destination island Pag via a ferry crossing. Time of arrival to Pag was 10am so we were just ready for a swim. Trying to avoid main stream traffic we took a number of greenlanes (the signs didn't say we are not allowed to enter) and by coincidence arrived at a local beach. The locals were extremely kind and let us spent the day there - wonderful experience at a remarkable beach. In the afternoon we left this place and drove through Pag to Zadar just in time to experience its night life - well recommended.

Day 3 - started the day 3 with a nice breakfast in the old town of Zadar following a wonder around local markets with fresh fruits, veggies and fish. When the temperature started to climb over 30 degrees we decided it was time for the beach. Having learned from the previous day we used various green lanes to arrive at a deserted beach about 30 km north of Sibenik - remarkable. In the evening we parked at a beautiful camp near Primosten, where by coincidence we bumped into some friends, which ended our trip as we dicided to spentdthe rest of the week with them there.

To summarise all in all done 2400km with 4 full tanks mild driving - cost just under €500

Plenty of camps around mostly small (in the back garden of some one) at petty money and not well equipped. There are however some nice camps with private beaches et al - well recommended the one near Primosten. Cost wise anywhere between €15 and €40 a night for two people, car and a dog.

Food splendid, no more to say - meal for two with wine between €30 and €70, which I find pretty dear for small local restaurants

Highway charges - Slovenia for 7 days at €15; Croatia for about 300km on highway €30

To the car - it coped extremely well on motorway, roads and all the side tracks but could not escape some minor damage to the paint due to trees and tar. Only bit missing was a pre-cooler air con that I could have left on 24/7 as it was 35+ all week

Well recommeded holiday Thumbs Up
