Help please 2008 alternator test procedure

Gidday Folks

Thanks for your site.

I'm trying to help a fella turn his battery light off.

2008 rr sport
VIN: SALLSAA238A158773

I think it's a 3.6 litre v8 twiun turbo diesel

I'm about to pull the alternator off having found a pdf removal procedure.

I'm keen as for the test procedure for the alternator
I've heard 3 pin alternator plug may be

function . wire colour

CAN H w/puple
CAN L w/green
BATT red

Batt voltage 13.2 no load ~13.4 heater lights on @1500rpm

key out
pull the 3 terminal alternator plug
batt v drops to 12v @ 1500 rpm

I 've had it scanned
fault code P0625-11 and P0622-29

generator field circuit low

If the faults are cleared by the scanner
batt 14.3 ~14.5 @1500 rpm no loads for approx 20 seconds
then dash batt light back on 13.2~13.4 @1500rpm.

I'm wondering if the brushes are worn and just missing every 20 seconds or so
ECM picking this up and reducing the rotor current to reduce transients / spiking ?

Or the thing the CAN H and CAN L wires are connected with have spat the dummy ?

whats in side the alternator plastic brush box and what does it do ?

Any ideas please ? Pulling the alternator to check brushes is current guess ?

Kind regards

Theres a company in Manchester, can't recall the name but they can supply new rectifier (diodes) pack. Its a bit of soldering to get the old pack off and new on, but if you've already got the alternator off, makes it easier.

Will try and find the link later for you.
There's no real way to test off of the car tbh as the car intelligently works out what the alternator needs to output. Bodsys Brake Bible

so who's got the wee black box that'll plug into the lappie and alternator that looks just like the car.
move mouse up and down for diffent outputs.
doing the can can just like what the alternator would expect ?

Anyone got any idea what the can should look like if you hooked a scope on it ?
And what it does with change ?

2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

It's about the right age for the alternator to pack up on a TDV8 unfortunatly

The new alternators are a higher output I think (up to the job)

Why mend something that will only pack up again in another few years? Get the uprated one put on it RRS gone
