the 45 profile tyre on the 20's seams to offer a greater deal of protection than the 35 profile of the 22's.

I've not heard of any major failure with 20's RRS gone

As an aside, I did bend a 17inch rim on my Swift Sport. That also had reasonably low profile tyres 195/45/17 if I remember correctly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If you hit a big enough hole at speed it will damage any alloy. 2.7 TDV6

We have had to replace quite a few 20" OE and after market alloys over the years, also had to have quite a few straightened and cracks welded.

New alloys can be very expensive.

Speed is probably a bigger issue than weight really as the energy involved increases with the square of the speed increase.

I got a phone call from a friend a couple of weeks ago - she'd hit a big hole (300mm x 450mm x 150mm deep I reckon) and in the dark was struggling to sort out changing the wheel (well, she didn't even try, actually!). I had a quick look by torchlight and couldn't see any obvious damage to rim or tyre so I guess the impact had somehow moved the bead and that had given the immediate deflation that she described. This was a Clio at about 30-40mph too! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Any ideas of a specialist company who I cud maybe send a couple 22" wheels to get repaired properly? They've both been welded in the past but cracked again does that matter? Java black 2006

How they sell to KAHN china dealers here is by shipping this wheels out first and then "import" them into china to let people have the false impression that these wheels are actually imported wheels from UK. That may be true but it's not really the point. Most items are made in China these days. The important fact is whether or not they are made to the exacting quality standards required by reputable companies that purchase them and that they comply with any of the regulations in the county they are being sold in. That's where you lose out by buying cheap copies, you don't know if they have had any safety testing or if they meet the standards & laws of your country. Therefore, you can't be sure they are safe to put on your car!

As for your point about them costing a fraction of retail price to manufacture.. Ummm, well No Sh t Sherlock That's hardly front page news! Hmmmm, I wonder if Nike Trainers or Sony Music Systems or Apple iPads are any different? I think not. That's just life in a commercial world.
