i agree Chris, I can't understand why the police are policing a private area, and the blocking off of laybys is OTT

This is what East Midlands say:
They allow 60 minutes free parking at the shuttle transfer parking so dropping off can be done free. Most people could probably get away with the free one hour pick up time at the shuttle car park too. If there are lots of signs saying "park here and we'll fine you £100" and you park there then you get what you deserve in my view. Sure, it might have been free before but maybe the greater numbers of people using the roads around the terminal in recent years has led to them doing this to prevent congestion as they say. Or perhaps the usual "they're doing it to fleece us" argument applies. I doubt it though. Our local hospital introduced parking charges because people were using it for free parking when in town and this prevented patients and visitors from parking (it's a small site so parking is limited). Were the police actually giving people parking tickets or was the ticket generated automatically? Perhaps the police were being paid by East Midlands to provide some coverage. Not surprising that the police would take some money to do that in these cash strapped times. Although the road is private, some things can still be controlled by the police I believe; just as the police can charge you with dangerous conduct in Tesco's car park. If it is a "public place" then the fact that it is privately owned doesn't matter. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

There is absolutely no free parking at all in the drop off /pick up area in front of the terminal everyone has to pay and it is very expensive now,the lady I spoke to waiting to pick up her daughter from our flight had to pay £7 she said because our plane was delayed.

I had to pay a tenner when I went to pick up a friend from Luton Airport. Just took it on the chin and got on with my life - compared to the fuel costs of the round trip it wasn't that big a deal.
Did you look on their website? Usual MO for me when going somewhere to pick someone up: check the website for pertinent info such as parking.
Or they might have been talking to them about no road tax displayed, or no insurance on the system etc.
Yeah, that one is interesting. Maybe they just run it as a "enough people will pay up to cover the CCTV costs and we won't actually chase anyone who doesn't" basis.
Seems quite steep, admittedly, but then there is no point having a fine that isn't a deterent. As to whether a judge would throw it out; who knows - if there are lots of warning signs etc. then a judge might just say "fair enough, you were warned enough after all"
Fill your boots You just need to get enough people to pay up so that you can afford to chase those who don't...
See above. The police might not have been doing anything related to parking. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Nice ad hom there. A simple "let's agree to disagree" would have sufficed.
