Superchip - Has anyone done this mod to the SEv6 3.0L

Looking to see if anyone has done this yet ? I am thinking of getting my ECU remapped to remove that horrible lag on takeoff and add a bit more life to the vehicle.

Appreciate any feedback. MY12 RRS Black, with a few extras.

PK make sure that whatever is done is not detectable/could invalidate your warranty. One of the companies in NSW that gets a lot of rave reviews is Davies Performance Land Rovers, they do a lot of LR tuning (might be at least worth a call to get the low down on tuning/remap), I had trouble keeping up with one of Davies LR tuned TD5 SWB defender a few weeks ago on a dual carriage way with the foot firmly planted to the floor Shocked

Personally I would not do the changes until warranty was up so as not to give LR any excuse to wiggle out of their warranties Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

My 3 litre TDV6 RRS twin turbo has absolutely no turbo lag.
My 2.8 litre TDV6 LR3 had lots of lag.
Surprised that this is an issue with the 3 litre?

I am surprised you say there is no turbo lag , I have had three RRS from 2009 up (all 3.0L TTv6) and all three have had turbo lag , it is most noticable off the line .and through to second gear.

Anyway , as thought , now i have done the upgrade there is a HUGE difference in the response, smoothness of gear changes , economy has gone down one Litre per 100kms (same route same speed every day so fairly accurate) .

The vehicle is a totally different vehicle to drive , fun , and well worth the spend.

Thanks to Peter from Superchip , first time I have gone away from the DP Chip style upgrade and must say it is an impressive piece of work. Recommend to anyone who wants a more responsive and smoother vehicle.

By the way , I am in no way connected to Superchip , I just believe in giving recognition where due based on my own personal experience. MY12 RRS Black, with a few extras.

Most of the lag in my car is the software in the gearbox - drive it in command shift and there is no "turbo" lag indicating it is not turbo lag but the computer brain having a long hard think about what it wants to do.

My 3 Litre TDV6 has virtual instantaneous response in line with land rovers claim for this engine.
" The 3.0-litre diesel can significantly out perform its rivals by delivering 500Nm in only 500 milliseconds from idle."
Mine does this and I can't see the point in trying to better 80% of torque being available in 0.5 seconds from planting my right foot!
The 2.7 litre TDV6 is a different issue.

As I said before , night and day difference , but I gues only those who have done the mod will notice it .
Compared to other vehicles I own ,the RRS has a huge accellarator delay when you first touch it. Now it dosn;t Smile

Anyway , i'm very happy with the result and the increased fuel economy to boot ....LOL MY12 RRS Black, with a few extras.

I found this interesting post below on 3 litre TDV6 chipping in the technical section, interesting reading?

The only issue with chipping a 3.0 diesel, is the tuning can't be done through the OBD post (As far as I have been told, at least)

The only way to chip it is to remove the ECU from the car, open it up, and replace internals of the ECU...

This is copy/pasted from another website, and is approx 6 months old. Specifically for VAG cars, though Land Rover also use the EDC17 protection from 2010MY, therefore, can not tune the 3.0 through the OBD port for the reasons below

Quote:
We've had many people asking why we need to open the ECU's of the later cars brought to us, and what is this "tuning protection" many companies are talking about. Here's a brief explanation of it.

"Tuning Protection" for the Infineon TriCore TC-series processors (Bosch MED17/EDC17)

On the CR TDI and 1.8/2.0 Turbo Petrol engines with the latest Bosch ECU generation (MED17 for the petrols, EDC17 for the diesels, I'll just refer them to MEDC17 from now on...), Bosch has implemented some new security measures to protect against aftermarket reprogramming of the engine control unit calibration data.

Bosch originally started to use various checksums in the late 80's to verify the data integrity of the engine control unit memory content. Originally this was just a simple additive checksum, where you count the sum of all bytes in the file, and store the value in one place.

Later on, it was also used to protect the data from unauthorised modifications (thats us...). For example, ME7.5 ECU (1.8 Turbo) contains about 70 different checksum blocks, and the result values are filtered through various functions to have a secure method of verifying data integrity. At around the same time, Bosch started using access control on the outside ECU reprogramming (that is what we call the OBD flashing nowadays). It's usually a normal challenge-response scheme with a seed-key algorithm.

Of course, the chiptuning industry kept on and solved these functions to have methods of correcting the checksums, and to have OBD programming capability of these ECUs.

About 7-8 years ago, Bosch started using RSA signatures to control the ECU contents. Early on, just a 256bit RSA, then 512bit RSA, and nowadays, on these new ECUs, its a hash from a 1024Bit RSA signature. Something thats virtually un-crackable with traditional brute force methods.

Since these keys are yet to be solved, tuners have had to find other ways of programming the ECUs.

When the MEDC17 ECU family was released, a backdoor was found in the programming algorithm. Originally this hash was checked only after certain conditions were met. If they are not met, it was not checked. So the programming method made sure that was the case every time they programmed the ECU.

This "Tuning Protection", as it is commonly called, just means that this backdoor has been sealed, and the ECU always checks the hash validity after every OBD programming attempt. If this is not valid, it sets a flag in the memory that prevents the car from starting.

Our tools can detect this function just by reading the ECU via OBD. Many others, including some big brand names, have problems with cars not starting after writing.

That is why, for now, on these protected ECU's, we need to open the ECU to use a processor function built in the TC17xx-series processors, which allows us to boot and reset the ECU at any given moment from pins on the motherboard. This way the ECU does not detect it as being an OBD programming attempt, and skips the hash validity check.

At this time, there are no tuning companies who can bypass this security check and if an ECU has "Tuning Protection" then it will need to be programmed by taking the ECU out and opening it. Some call it "bench flash", some say they "install a probe", but this is how it is done by ALL tuners who are offering remaps on "protected" MEDC17 ECUs. Strathearn Engineering

Superchip website states they can do the upgrade on both the 2.7 and 3 litre and in some instances provide warranty (well UK anyway), not sure what it covers in real life if you made a claim.. Be interesting to know if the upgrade is detectable, but i think i will wait for the warranty to expire before attempting Thumbs Up Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

This is why you should have bought a TDV8 in the first place.

best $1000 I have spent .

That write up above is old school and actually outlines the process the "experts" now use to bypass the old style of programming.

As always there is always some who are doing it while others criticise their efforts.

The Guy I used to do mine is actually contracted by Pugeot, VW, Mini , manufacturers and a few others here in Australia and NZ to modify their vehicles on the showroom floor the exact same way as he did mine....

I am comfortable in his abilities and his 20 + years fo tunign top racecars and bikes all around the world.

I would happily and confidentily give a v8 turbo version a run for its money ....zero to 100kmh I think I would win hands down.

Anyone in Brisbane want to try mine , your welcome too... MY12 RRS Black, with a few extras.

so is it a reprogramme of the existing ECU or is it a piggyback/in line add on ? Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Its a reflash of the origional ECU , although i have had great results in the past with a DP chip on other vehicles........ like the idea of the hidden product inside the ecu ... MY12 RRS Black, with a few extras.
