Keep the FL1. Don't get the Mini

Thats a bit harsh considering a fellow member has just posted saying he has a mini

Hence the smiley - it was a bit of fun. I do think they're very common (like all successful cars, of course) and terribly packaged though. The packaging does annoy me because it isn't that small but has very limited space.

Had a Swift Sport for nearly 3 years as a company car - it was an absolute blast. Proper old school warm/hot hatch which loved being thrashed and handled brilliantly. And, rather strangely, it had the most comfortable seat I've used in a car. Maybe it just fitted me properly but more comfortable than the RRS and in a different league to my Golf before that. And totally reliable. Unlike the Golf. Decent kit levels, a good old school 5 speed manual box that was a joy to use, pedals set perfectly for heel and toe changes and good brakes too. I very nearly bought it from the company car scheme at the end of my time with it. It was that good. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Keep the freelander.

On top of everything else said, all important:

BMW stole mini, destroyed Rover Group, tried to harvest Land Rover - not to mention they make awful cars despite the hype they are good - ive never seen a good BMW from any angle. Mike

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Now having seen your FL1 i'd stick with that compared to that mini, the mini looks basic, i am a sucker for having my motors well specced and never go for a run of the mill bog standard spec, but thats me, there is so many different addons when it comes to minis before you know it you are into bmw 3 series specced cars Shocked By the sounds of it you are just after a change as you don't need 2 4x4's personally i would shop around for a better specced 2nd hand mini if thats the route you want to go down. You won't have trouble shifting your FL1 Thumbs Up

Judging from the vote you lot are as undecided as me - maybe this will help Embarassed

Was looking for two year old mini's between £11 - 13K but the two I liked sold before I viewed them Sad

Been offered £6 - £7500 px for FL despite only one other 07 for sale at £9250 with dealer on autotrader Evil or Very Mad

However FL1 soon needs service, MOT, Tax and tyres (deteriorating due to low mileage/weathering) so will probably need to spend about £1000 to sort all this - not bad after 3 years with only clutch master fail costing £90 after 50% contribution from LR Very Happy

Best deal £7000 cash from dealer I bought FL1 from and a 2 month old Mini with pepper pack, met paint, satnav, twin spoke alloys, TLC, white indicators and soda stripe/mirrors for £14400 (saving £3k) Thumbs Up

Incidentally the cost of the mini is about the same as the depreciation on my sport in the last 2 years Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

This is an excellent point and I agree in the main but I feel Rover was Censored by the last owners after BMW and the Chinese pulled a fast one and got MG for nothing Evil or Very Mad

I bought a new MG TF in 2003 and within a year it was worthless with no warranty Big Cry

I hate BMW but the mini is still built at Cowley by Brits so sits better with my conscience - if TATA move LR/RR abroad I may end up with a mini as my only option or a transit van Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I always take that view but FL1 got 3 stars and Mini 5 for ncap Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I think you are correct muddy but the two don't really compare as they are in different classes, is a 3 star large car safer than a 5 star small car Question I'm not sure if anyone really knows as ncap don't test one class of car against another. It would be good if they started doing this but I suppose they don't have the budget Rolling Eyes 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant
