Thinking about joining the fold - Well I'm serious really...

Hi guys, new here...

hope you are all well..

Just landed a new job, and the household will be reducing from a 2 car household to only one. No better time than now to get an upgrade on my car!

I currently have around £18-20k to play with. I reckon a 2006/2007 2.7 TDV6 should fit into that bracket. Reckon I will put down around £10k as a deposit and then pay the rest off on finance.

I've owned BMW, Audis and Mercs, but never a Landrover and people keep putting me off them. Unreliable blah blah etc...

Any advice would be most appreciated. I have already looked at the BAS remap, but in reality are these cars REALLY that unreliable?

Now to tell the wife! Thumbs Up

I would say a good analogy is like dating a Supermodel, pain in the ass occasionally and high maintenance but worth every penny for the upsides Thumbs Up
Just done a search on LR and if you set an upper limit of £22K to allow for a bit of batering there are 25 decent cars to choose from all warranted by LR Thumbs Up MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Unreliable is a tad strong ..

The problem is the ecu/safety sensors are over protective..resulting in total shut downs for something as small as a blown light bulb..

I'd still budget for a 3rd party warranty (even a cheapy that just covers turbo etc would be money well spent)

The trouble is they are expensive to repair, unless you have a friendly independent near by.

Chrisp you are totally correct , they probably look and feel as good as a model as well. Donster go for it , i have had mine for 3 years and yes its had the usual bushes, brakes, battery, and minor gremlins !!! But i ,like you have had most of the major makes of car, but the rrs is the best so far they seem to have a bit more sole than most makes. Also some of the guys on here know loads, so if you have problems or questions somebody on here will help? or thats what i have always found. The most painfull bit is buying or paying for one in the first place.Good luck with your search.

Right:

Went shopping today. HAVE A BUDGET OF £22K...

I saw a TDV8 which looked in great nick, and the salesman really put me off buying a 2.7 TD6....

He said it was REALLY underpowered and remaping the a 2.7 would put the components under far too much stress...

He said its better to buy a TDV8. Any opinions?

Ideally i was going to spend £20k on a TDV6 and then remap it...

I suppose you have to drive both ? Mines a v6 and at the time i brought it , i would have preferred the v8 but they was considerably more money at the time. However i have never been disappointed with the v6 as i dont consider these motors as performance kind of cars anyway! say if i was buying a boxster or sl , i would want the faster version for sure. I would always go for the colour (in and out), spec and look you want in the first place, then the engine on rrs !! if it comes in v8 then it would be even better. As far as the remap stuff, i am now going to have mine done as i have decided to keep it for a while. And i was very dubious about any engine upgrade, but i have after extensive reading on here come to the conclusion that it does nothing to damage any parts. Ask around and you will find most on here saying ,its a must.
Dont listen to salesman anyway, they sometimes have another agenda.

If you drive both you'll probably buy the v8. It's an awesome engine and if you can stretch it then I would personally always choose the tdv8 over the tdv6. The only downside is price. Fuel consumption is very similar and the cost of tax is the same (unless you buy a 2005)

If you buy outside the dealer network you can always put a LR warranty on it for about £700 Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

Agree with everything that has been said so far.

A re-mapped TDV6 is nothing like a standard TDV8, never mind a mapped TDV8 Cool
That said though, re-mapping either engine will not put any excess strain on any engine components Thumbs Up Strathearn Engineering
