Newbie buying guide!!

Afternoon All,

This will be my first of many posts on what seem to be forum of knowledge.

I'm looking to purchase a Range Rover Sport SE 06 plate , and i'm hopeing to get some background information and guidance on buying tips.

Here's a couple of questions -

What should I look out for with this model and age group (common faults, issues)

What is the difference in spec between a SE & HSE 2.7?

PS - It's a private sale
Thanks M

Welcome Smile

Firstly, I'd get a tea/coffee/wine/beer/spirit and sit down a take a read through the fault/fixes area of the site, you'll see common faults there and which models they relate to.

Common faults to look out for are EGR valve issues, suspension knocking, air suspension issues, multiple electrical issues, tailgate locking problems, failing alternators, orange engine management lights.........the list goes on. Don't mean to scare you, just be aware that these are temperamental cars.

I've only recently joined the RRS fold, but it seems some people are long suffering, others have got off relatively lightly with problems.

A warranty is vital regardless of if you buy private or end up going to a dealer. Worth keeping an eye out in the 'for sale' section on here.

2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Welcome to the site Bluebear Thumbs Up

The HSE will have a fridge between the front seats (the SE has a cubby hole here),
19" alloys (SE has 18's)
and an H in front of the SE on the boot Whistle..

There are a few spec'd up SE's out there (factory rear entertainment and fridge etc) but not common. RRS gone

I've always thought so...

All HSE D3's had the fridge whereas the SE did not (optional extra)
and the Disco/RRS trim specs are identical RRS gone

M,
My advice to you would be to find the newest HSE V8 you afford sourced from a good LR dealership with a proper warranty and take a long and mixed test drive over some bumpy ground and motorways to give the suspension a good check out before you commit.
Any cash you might save from buying private could easily be eaten up quickly on a car of that age.
Just bear in mind that if you save on the front end buying a 2.7 SE you will lose on the back end when you come to sell so just consider cost of ownership when making your decision and I think a good V8 HSE in black, grey or silver with black or ivory leather and everything original should hold its value better.
Unless you are doing a huge mileage there will be little difference in fuel costs and its worth it for the performance and sound track. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

If there is a fridge (cool box) then it'll be white lined with an on/off switch just inside the lid.. (it will be obvious..so if you've not seen it then you've got the standard cubby box... which I think is fed cool air from the a/c)> RRS gone

Thanks for all the responses guys, some good feedback.

I'm going to take the advice onboard and start looking at the v8's.

I've got my coffee ready to start trawling through the forum.

Thanks guys.
