We found Argos pretty good for the balance of value for money, although not sure what they are like for dogs with pre-existing conditions

Will need to check my insurance now, as we went with tesco @ £15/month

You are comparing a lifetime policy with an annual one. The cheap ones like Tesco and Direct Line are annual policies, so once you've claimed or got a chronic condition you are out of luck. The lifetime policies such as Petplan or Kennel Club cover for the lifetime of the dog and if taken as a puppy cover them come what may. When we sell puppies we give the new owners 6 weeks free cover so we know they are covered from day one. Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

Ady,
Its a real issue it was on Watchdog a couple of weeks ago,a bank think it may have been Lloyds but not certain offered a Lifetime Policy and then decided it was unprofitable and pulled out leaving owners with worthless policies which no one would take on with pre-existing conditions, those who complained to the Ombudsman received quite large compensation payments.
I still think self insurance is the way to go with most well bred dogs apart from the large breeds or others with predisposed hereditary traits.
I've saved about £120 per month for over 10 years with only the occasional trip at about £90 each for things like aural haematomas and barbed wire laceration.
Forrest is nearly 13 now and still fairly fit other than a bit of stiffness after exercise and has none of the lumps and bumps often seen in many who have been fully inoculated annually.
The other thing in my Petplan small print was an insistance on annual dental check ups and there additional associated costs.
Also don't let a vet worm them do it yourself available from all good farm shops for a fraction of the price.

Having been rather unlucky where dogs are concerned I will give you my views since I have had them pay out big bucks on many occasions.

Petplan is the best out there but cost the most, however go and look what NFU has to offer, they do a policy almost identical to the petplan one (make sure you get a lifetime one as suggested) but quite a bit cheaper.

Oh and nice choice of dog, my wife keeps pestering me to get a 'frenchy' but I have put my foot down and said no!
I am more used to Rotties & Bull Mastiffs so they are far too small for me but bloody cute!

I'm in no position to comment really (I have a Border Terrier, but wanted a Weimaraner Sad ) but can't help but think you'd fit in perfectly taking him for a walk in Old Compton Street in London Whistle

It's more for the other half...........she works from home and it's a perfect dog to keep her company as they are very much house dogs and rarely bark (which will be handy as she's on the phone all day)
