My RRS has halogen lights. Looking at the back of the housing it looks as if the slot where the shutter would have been fitted in the Bi Xenons seems to be there. Can someone tell me whether the basic housings are in fact the same (obviously one without the shutter) and whether the lens in the headlight is the same in both headlight housings.

I am thinking about replacing the low beam halogens with single beam HIDs but want to investigate relevant issues first.

Hi Garry,
I think that the reflectors are a different shape for Halogen V's HID as one has a point source of light and the other issues the light from a greater area in the globe.
You often see cars that have had HID fitted to the standard reflectors and they spray bright HID type light all over the place dazling oncoming drivers. Not good.

Garry,

I would think that the housing of all 3 different headlights (Halogen, Bi-Xenon or Adaptive Front lighting System) are the same and I am sure the headlamps share a common, clear lens.

Regarding replacing the low beam halogens, please remember that you have a combination Bi-halogen low/high beam headlamp and replacing it with a single HID.....?

Barry - thanks for your input - I suspect you are right and the reflectors are different but not sure.

Bobby - thanks for the information and highlighting that the halogens are like the Bi Xenons in that they are Bi Halogens - I didn't know that.

If I cannot find out if the reflectors are the same (I suspect they are different) then the lights will stay halogens. I will replace the globes with better units though.

Hi Gary, I have replaced the standard halogen lamps with a hid conversion kit on a RRS 06 YM, but only on the dipped beam,(massive improvement)main beam seemed o.k. as is. There is room for the discharge unit on the bottom of the headlamp casing, it might be worth trying to find a kit with metal bulb bases as the plastic base bulbs are too thick for retaining clips, hopes this helps

Garry, the headlamps i converted were halogen dipped and main, I only converted dipped beam, they are single filament bulbs (H7), the dipped does stay on with high beam as with most vehicles, projector style headlamps work well with HID bulbs, basically non bi- xenons oem headlamps are projector lamps with self leveling devises,(dipped beam that is), I don't know whats involved to convert main beam, the halogen mains seem o.k. anyway
