United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Fuji White
About to take the plunge...

Decision made in principle, now to get one! (HSE diesel)

After lots of years in cars probably too fast for the UK ( 911, GT-R and a few others) decided that an RRS would be just the ticket for dive gear, dogs, etc. I've considered a few big 4x4 but:

Q7. Just too hideous in a lot of respects.
X6 Too much of a cock wafting image
X5. Good but interior not a patch on the RRS. 4.0d very quick though.
Cayenne See X6 above .
VW Toerag Good value but a bit bland. Resale values look dodgy.

Plus a mate has a white HSE (MY11) and loves it.
Now,colour. I know black or white are the most popular and so will be easier to get hold of as stock. Is this true?
I did see a Marmaris Teal one last week and it looked great but might get tired of it.
Will probably go new. Some of the nearly new LR approved stock looks stupid money to me- quite close to list.

Looks as though most of LR's reliability gremlins are historic-aren't they?

Residuals look quite good. Anyhow they'll be a lot better than the 11 plate Insignia VXR I bought 18 months ago. Yes, I know but keep the abuse within acceptable levels for a new poster!

Will update as I go but initial thoughts are very welcome.

Best regards all Rod

Andorra 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Fuji White

That looks like a post that I could have written 9 months ago before my purchase !!

I do sometimes have a wobble when I see an X6 which was second on my list.... but when I look at it closely... look at the practicality issues and remember why I bought and RRS.... not least of all remember the dull interior of the X6... I know I got it dead right....
And you are spot on with the rest of your list....
5 months on and 6,000 miles ..... no faults at all....
White....... Love it wouldn't have any other colour....would have black.... but it's much harder to keep clean and too many around....
Having used a good paint sealant on delivery..... the top half of my car still gleams 2 weeks between washes... even on all the mountain roads....
Good luck... 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Santorini Black

Welcome to the forum!
2 years in, on the facelifted RRS, and no problems to report, apart from the drivers seat moving a mm or so under braking( must loose more weight!) after 20 odd years in fastish cars, I don't miss them one bit! The 3ltr is adequate , and it is more about wafting about and enjoying the drive! Re the X5, the interior is quite spaceage, but will date really quickly IMHO , compared to the RRS!
I have black , which does look great, I wasnt brave enough for White , at the time there were none on the road round here, now everyone has one! Our local dealer has a Baltic blue with ivory interior which looks absolutely stunning ( might not be practical with dogs and sandy dive gear though !
Cheers

moved from Lotus to RRS a few years back and haven't looked back. The new interior on the RRS completes my life Rolling with laughter

(I'm not a fan of the latest change though - removing the gear stick!)

Welcome Lakeland9! Thumbs Up

Stick to Black, Grey, White or Silver if you are concerned about residual value. Ebony interior is most popular with Ivory in 2nd place, however perhaps steer clear of White or Silver in conjunction with Ivory. Wood is fairly resale-conscious, therefore depending on the age of vehicle then try to go for Grand Black Wood or Anigre with Ebony, however Ivory is fine with Walnut if preferred. Dark Blue/Green can give a nice ‘traditional’ look with Almond leather (Alpaca on pre-09 models), however strongest residual values are for the more monochrome combinations. Cool

I appreciate that we are a fair distance from you, however if you would like any assistance with the purchase (or even a little advice) then LPR are happy to assist. If we can find a car for you then everything can be done via email and we will fill it with diesel for your return journey home! Many forum members have bought from us 'on-spec' as we will only retail those vehicles that we are 100% happy to retail....... no half measures at LPR! Wink

All depends on the budget as to what you can get, however we seem to do well with 18 month old vehicles where the initial depreciation has been absorbed, however if financing then more often than not the finance rate makes a new vehicle too close to turn down. Cool

Let us know if you need any help and welcome to the forum.

James Thumbs Up

Hi James

I thought you might be along, having lurked on the forum a bit! Thanks for your advice
.
I think a trip down to see you might be worthwhile(what's a 4 hour round trip after all?), as others seem to have found in the past...

As to budget, I can go for new and I think that's my preference but would look at anything pre-registered or other MY12.

Will send you a pm so we don't bore everyone else!

regards Rod

Lakelan9,

No problem. Best to email as opposed to PM if possible to jamestayler@lookers.co.uk.

The kettle is always on, therefore it would be good to see you. Sadly you've just missed a couple of HSE's that probably would have hit the nail on the head.

If you speak to Jonathan or Mike21 then we are up for a decent deal on a new vehicle if required! Wink

James Thumbs Up

Thanks for the responses,guys.

James and I are now "in touch" and we shall see!

I hope not to miss the speed of a fast car but having a RRS is an itch I have to scratch.

BTW,just reading the other thread about the chap who wants to switch to 5.0 s/c to get some extra power. My GT-R was dyno'd at 520bhp and was awesome. Trouble was I kept thinking I could end up in jail or dead,it was so tempting to give it some. Twisted Evil Rod

Sorry to gatecrash, but re X6 vs RRS, I can get a deal (here in Aus) for an ex BMW head office car X6 50i with all the options for not much more than a 3.0 diesel ex head office RR Sport Luxury. About 6000 km's on each.

What would you do?

BMW is a bit "much" but the in cabin tech is amazing.

I'm not one to agree with everything Clarkson says but on the X6 the TG review summary is:

"Looks, frankly, terrible. The ultimate two-fingers to all other road users that takes up road space while not making the best use of it; coupe body over X5-sized chassis. It does however, drive like precisely nothing else on the road."

As a piece of engineering it's brilliant but I fear I couldn't face driving one about.

Still, to each his own. You won't have to look at it when driving it,after all! Rod
