Hw to remove tailgate switch when it won't unlock?

My upper tailgate switch on my 2006 has packed up and won't open the top half, I'm going to replace this switch but need to get the old one off , how do I get it off i can't get the top tailgate to open pls? Question Java black 2006

Buy the new switch first. When it arrives, pop the old switch out the tailgate, plug in the new switch and open the tailgate that way Thumbs Up Strathearn Engineering

as said kensta you dont need to open the tailgate to fit the new switch look at the new switch it has clips on it just use a screwdriver to pop the old one out

Tailgate switch cleaning

Have a look at this thread. It says it all and pic's.
I had same problem and all i did was to remove switch and cleaned it up with scotchbright repaced and it works.

Mission accomplished! Was a doddle to change just like yous said, cheers For the link Arctic I wud of tried cleaning it but I'd already bought a replacement one the afternoon mate, mine looked just like the one in the pics tho aswel! Java black 2006

Hi Marc I got it from dealer (stratstones) m8 and it was around 20 odd quid, there's a couple on eBay the other day but I think they were more towards 30quid, doddle to change over aswel, Good luck Java black 2006

usually wires break at the top of the tailgate.

Either the switch wire or the solonoid wire

pull the wiring out with the full tailgate open See if you can locate a broken wire.

Check the Pink wires as a minimum.
