Initial thoughts 2009 TDV8 HSE first 2,500 miles

Hi,

Just thought I would post my initial thoughts on my (new to me) RRS. It replaced a very P&j XKR as my boys are now too tall to fit.

I was looking for a XF-S or an XJ or a RRS and the local dealer came up with a RRS which was exactly 3 years old but had done only 13k miles which was the attraction, no extras just a very nice genuine low mileage car.

Things which I was not expecting.
1. The suspension to be so firm. Thought coming from the XKR which had the optional super sports suspension that I would find the RRS a bit soft in comparison. Turns out it is probably as firm.
2. 22mpg on drive from London to Glasgow (ouch) 29.7mpg on the way back, similar driving, guess it was downwind....

Things that have been confirmed
1. Wonderful, wonderful driving position and seat or should I say chair.
2. Smooth gear change
3. Fabulous soft leather
4. Really solid feel to the car, there is not a single rattle, the doors close with a satisfying thunk and all the buttons and dials have a good solid feel to them.

The engine had a louder diesel clatter to it than other ones I test drive. I thought it was my imagination, bought some additives, ran the super diesel through it but it appears only after the trip up to Scotland and back has it become much quieter. Put Shell premium in it and it really quitened down leaving the last surprise for me - the exhaust note which is better than my XK-R with its standard exhaust.

Only mod I am now thinking about is getting my iPod properly integrated, running the wires into the aux in and the power is a bit messy looking.

Just thought I would share

Graham

Thumbs Up

Nice honest write up and I'm glad you're enjoying the motor Mr. Green

Interesting note about shell premium diesel.... I might try it, as I've stuck with BP standard diesel since purchasing mine RRS gone

Really good impressions and I totally agree with you as I'm on my first 2008 TDV8 also and have done a few mods such as colour coding and exhaust and I absolutely love it. You say you have no rattles at all which is not like mine as the rear parcel shelf/cover does rattle a bit over bumpy road surfaces. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

I listened to your exhaust video - really nice sound. Your daughter made me laugh - the things kids say are brilliant Smile

The more I drive the car the more I get used to it and the more impressed I am becoming Smile

I had to put standard Esso in the tank and I am sure it is louder again - I have to stop obsessing, I have to stop obsessing, I .... Graham

lol re the obsessing bit. My better half said so much so I've taken the stance to enjoy the motor, but always keep an eye out for a mod if the moment takes me Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx
