Alarms......

What's the alarms like on RRS's?
Good enough or worth spending money on an aftermarket one?

Slightly related, when you lock the car, make sure you 'double' lock it, it plip the remote twice, this will deadlock the doors, so they cannot be opened in the event that someone smashes a window Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I thought pressing it twice deactivated the inside sensors (so you could leave a dog in the car for example)??

Is this not right?

Should I be pressing twice? I normally just press the button on the door handle to lock.

On mine (MY12) one click, locks the doors, but they can be opend form the inside.
2 clicks and it double locks them. Thumbs Up

From the manual....

Exiting the vehicle
SINGLE LOCKING
Press the lock button on the Smart Key briefly to single lock the vehicle and activate the perimeter alarm. The hazard warning lamps will flash to confirm.
Single locking secures the vehicle and prevents the doors from being opened from outside. The
doors may still be unlocked and opened from inside the vehicle. In this state, only the
perimeter alarm is activated.

PERIMETER ALARM.
Note: This setting should be used in circumstances such as travelling on a ferry,
when pets are to be left in the vehicle, or if a window must be left open etc.

DOUBLE LOCKING

Never double lock the vehicle with people, children, or pets inside. In the
event of an emergency they would be unable to escape and the emergency
services would be unable to release them quickly.
Press the lock button on the Smart Key twice within three seconds to double lock the vehicle
and activate the full alarm system. The hazard warning lamps will flash twice to confirm.
Double locking secures the vehicle and prevents the doors being opened from inside
or outside of the vehicle. The doors cannot be unlocked or opened from inside the vehicle
when double locked. This provides additional security if the vehicle
is left unattended. The vehicle cannot be opened by breaking a window and operating
the door locks from inside. Additionally, double locking also activates the full alarm system.

FULL ALARM.
Note: In this state, an open window or sunroof will cause the alarm to sound due to the
movement of air currents. For this reason, ensure all windows and the sunroof are fully
closed before double locking the vehicle.

PERIMETER ALARM
The perimeter alarm system is activated when the vehicle is single locked (see 12, SINGLE
LOCKING). Once activated, the alarm system will sound if:
• The bonnet, tailgate or a door are opened.
• The vehicle battery is disconnected.
• An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm
siren.
FULL ALARM
The full alarm system is activated when the
vehicle is double locked (see 12, DOUBLE
LOCKING). Once activated the alarm system will sound if:
• The bonnet, tailgate or a door are opened.
• Movement is detected within the vehicle interior.
• A window, front or rear windscreen or sunroof glass are broken.
• The vehicle is raised or tilted.
• The vehicle battery is disconnected.
• An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm system.
INTERIOR PROTECTION
The interior protection feature of the full alarm system may be temporarily disabled via the
Vehicle set-up menu
Note: Once enabled, this setting will activate the next time the vehicle is double locked with the Smart Key. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

On my MY12 the alarm is not very loud at all. Anyone know if you can increase the volume somehow?

MY09 is different.

Single plip "super locks' it. ie dead locks it. Doors can't be opened even if some scrote bricks your windows as happened to me on Sunday night in Bradford Royal Infirmary car park.

Double plip 'super locks' it but disables interior sensors handy when some scrote has bricked your window and you have a plastic bag there instead and have a degree of respect for your neighbours and don't want to wake them up in the middle of the night if it's windy.

Just waiting on Autoglass with a genuine LR NSF window this afternoon. A 2 day wait for the genuine LR part isn't too bad.

£250 fitted and for what? They got an iPod lead and a 5 year old iPod. Value about £50. Due to the taxman I now have to earn £500 to get the £250 net. I demand a better standard of Policing for me as Im paying more for it. And my road tax is £465 so surely as I pay more I should expect more? Oh sorry sir it doesn't work like that... The more you pay the less you get from the state, silly me...! It all goes on benefits to the likes that break into vehicles to steal property rather than work for it and because they have 'social issues' are exempt from any punitive measures. You can guarantee if I had clattered the miscreant the Police force would have had no problems at all in finding me and bringing the full weight of the law to bear upon me.

Big Cry

Rant over, the security works fine, the only improvement would be a half starved scrap yard Rotweiller in the back. Allan

Are the alarms landrovers own?
Do they do remote total closure? Eg put all the windows up aswell as lock the doors?

Not sure about if there are Land Rovers 'own' technology, I assume so Confused

Mine does have the total closure, ie it will close/open all windows (and sunroof if fitted) via the remote. Not sure on earlier incarnations though. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

On my Discovery 3 if you unplug the actual alarm siren it defaults to the horns which are louder! Not sure about newer MY sports though. Just a thought...

On my MY08, if you double plip the key fob, it deactivates the interior alarm (useful for dog owners) but unlocks the fuel flap.

Which is just bizarre.

They don't nick your car but they nick all of your fuel instead. Which, at current prices rise rates, will mean they take more of value by emptying the tank than by nicking the bloody car!!

Oh, and mine has a tracker system fitted as required by the insurance co. . Although I've always thought that I'd rather not get it back after it was nicked as you don't know what they've done to it in the time they've had it... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
